: Balance new flywheel & PP?

I just bought a new 11" flywheel and pressure plate/clutch from GU and wondered if it might be a good idea to have a machine shop check the balance before installing them in the car. Is this necessary and would an automotive machine shop do this?
Thanks,
Rich

When they balance a flywheel they usually have your crank, harmonic balancer, etc. to balance it as an assmebly. So I would just put it in the way it is.

Dave,
That is only true on "external" balance engines like the 454 and 400's. On internal balance engines, the flywheel can be checked seperately.

Rich,
Most replacement flywheels are balanced pretty close from the factory so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If you have an 11in clutch, your flywheel is the 14in version, not 11in. There is no such thing as an 11in flywheel (on a Chevy V8 engine).

Thanks Bill, and others.
Tom, yes, that's what I was thinking, it just never quite made it to my keyboard that way!
