: Virginia TC members!
bb1966chevelle Apr 29th, 08, 10:59 AM I am taking a road trip this Sunday, May 4th, to spend a few hours with some friends in the US Army, who are currently stationed at Fort Lee VA.
We plan on meeting somewhere low keyed, such as a park, near the Doswell Va area. I was wondering if any TC members who know or who are near there could give me a little guidance?
I'll be coming down I-95 for 220 miles from Philly PA. Is there anywhere not far off of I-95 in the Doswell area ( or surrounding areas - give or take a few miles / exits ), to relax and hang out?
As I said, we're not looking to go anywhere crazy or do anything like going to Paramount's Kings Dominton. Just meet somewhere quiet so we can shoot the breeze and catch up before they deploy to Iraq in June.
Also, seeing how the weather may be on the rainy side for Sunday, somewhere indoors may also have to be considered.
Are there any cool car shows going on that Sunday near there if the rain does hold out? That would be a cool place to hang out also.
I don't know VA well and neither do they since they are only stationed there and cant travel much.
Any ideas or help would be great!
Thanks,
Joe
P.S.... I forgot to mention that I will be rolling out of Philly about 5am, and should reach the Doswell VA area around 10am, give or take. I don't know how much time they have, but I assume at least 3 - 4 hours.
Thanks again
JHP69ss Apr 29th, 08, 1:13 PM Joe, my recommendation would be Old Towne (downtown) Fredericksburg...your folks would have to drive a little north of Doswell, but then again you're coming all the way from Cheesesteak land, it's the least they could do :)! Don't know of many parks around Doswell, but you can kill some time and get some good grub in Fredericksburg.
creeper72 Apr 29th, 08, 1:32 PM There are some nice public areas around Lake Anna. I am not familiar enough to give you exact directions, that is kinda around the Fredericksburg area. There is a good race going on in Dinwiddie ( about 45 min south of doswell ) Only other thought would be G force Karts near the Richmond airport.Thats inside and really fun. They run High End carts on an indoor track. You could check it out on-line.Maybe others that live in that area will chime in.
chevelledude71 Apr 29th, 08, 3:51 PM THERE IS NOTHING IN PETERSBURG AT NIGHT FOR YOU TO DO. Other than that, what the other fine members have said.
manganos Apr 29th, 08, 5:02 PM I live in Dinwiddie right down the road from FT LEE. There is PLENTY to do if you stay out of Petersburg (unless you want to buy crack lol)
bb1966chevelle Apr 29th, 08, 9:49 PM Hey guys, thanks for the replies!
Seems like the Fredericksburg area is the place to go? lake Anna sounds like a good place to hang out as well. I will see what i can find on Goodle about them.
And thanks for the tips on Petersburg. I'll be sure to stay out of the area and bring my own crack ....:D:D:D:D:D
Manganos, how far are you from the Fredericksburg area? if your that close to Fort Lee, it'll give me a good idea on how far they would have to travel.
Thanks again !
Joe
manganos Apr 29th, 08, 10:20 PM FT Lee to Fredricksburg is a good 1 1/2 hrs. There are cruise ins around here (Hopewell/FT LEE/ Dinwiddie) on both Friday and Sat night. I'm planning on taking my son out with me on Friday evening if you want to catch up ;)
Skeeveman Apr 29th, 08, 10:48 PM I say you all should meet up at one of the local gentleman's clubs, with a fist full of singles. l:)
bb1966chevelle Apr 30th, 08, 9:22 AM Yo Chris ...
I'd love to catch up. The only problem is I'll only be there on Sunday for a few hours. Any cruise ins taking place on Sunday? I know around here, certain places have car shows every Friday and Sunday thru May to sept. Nothing like that in your neck of the woods?
And Jake, believe me when I tell you that I already suggested that idea, lol. It didn't go over to good since 2 of the 4 people I am meeting up with are girls..... They just don't know how to have a good time ...LOL
manganos Apr 30th, 08, 5:02 PM No cruise ins only on Friday and Saturday nights here ;)
LeoP Apr 30th, 08, 6:20 PM Google Fredericksburg Trolley and see what you get.
spdracer256 Apr 30th, 08, 6:37 PM I work right across the street from Kings Dominion and I live one exit to the north. There is not much to do here, however, one exit south of Doswell is the town of Ashland. Plenty of resteraunts and such in this area, heck we even have a Wal-mart-!(LOL) There is a resteraunt in Ashland right on route 1 called the Smokey Pig that has excellent "southern" food and bar-b-que (get off 95s and go 3 lights on rt54 to rt 1. Left onto rt 1 and the resteraunt is on the right.) Of course there's the usual suspects.... Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday, Pizza Hut, Arby's, Wendy's, Mc'D's, KFC, Cracker Barrell, etc. I think I heard about a local church having a cruise in and luncheon Sunday afternoon. I'll check and get back to you. I can't think of a nearby park right off the top of my head but I can ask around. (I'm from the Fredericksburg area and just moved down here) If you want to go to Fredericksburg, I can give you directions and recommendations to anything you want. If you'd like, call my cell 540-455-0941 if you need anything, I'd be more than happy to help ya out.
manganos Apr 30th, 08, 8:53 PM Hey Warren. You want better BBQ then Smokey PIG? Try VA BBQ right around the corner. It is across the street from that farm market that is in the parking lot.
bb1966chevelle May 1st, 08, 8:51 AM Yo Warren, thanks for the reply! I hope you dont mind if I take you up on the offer to call? What time would be good to call? I dont want to catch you while your at work or dinner or something like that.
Thanks for the help!
Joe
spdracer256 May 2nd, 08, 1:04 AM You can call anytime.. I'm working night shift tonight and tomorrow night and only sleep a few hours during the day. Feel free to try me anytime.. I'll be home all weekend.:hurray:
BarefootDave May 2nd, 08, 5:15 AM Hey Joe,
Here's a site with good info on that area. I see some local shows on the 3rd but nothing on the 4th.

bb1966chevelle May 2nd, 08, 5:56 PM Thanks for the replies and the links guys!
We are thinking now about possibly having the little get-to-gether on Monday. For the simple reasons that it looks like theres going to be heavy showers on SUnday, and we didn't know it but theres a Nascar race this Saturday in Richmond?
Whats the traffic like on I-95 when nascar is in town there? I know in Dover DE, I got stuck for 3 hours well after the race had already started!
Thanks again
manganos May 2nd, 08, 8:58 PM 95 isn't TOO bad. Do not go anywhere near interstate 64 from now until Saturday at 1am.
