Hey guys I could not make the last one but planning on going real soon. I already have 3 or 4 buddies down for Test n Tune on May 23rd. Its Friday night. Gates open at 4PM...racing is from 6-10PM. I would like to get both the Norcal Camaros and Norcal Chevelles together for a fun night of racing. Lets bring the BBQ's as well into the pits. I will post this on Team Camaro as well. gonna be in Turlock for my fiance's cousin's graduation from high school. Why there is a high school graduation on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend baffles me, but I'm not the quake that picked that day. Needless to say, I can't make. Hoping to meet up with Craig (THORSS70) while I'm in Turlock though.

Hey Ron, sounds like fun. I just got my car running pretty good after a rotor/cap issue screwing my ignition up. But I'm good now and will start working on getting a truck and trailer to tow my Chevelle. Do you have any ideas besides Uhaul?

Ron, I am running a Comp Cams .516 lift/.292 duration cam. And I have no idea what mufflers I have since they are 20 years old from the previous owners. My dad bought this car in 1989 and I just took over it last September. Wait til I uncap the header cutoffs. It gets really loud. Infineon made me recap it once! It was a Wednesday night.

Oh, and how's traffic on I-80 and I-50 Friday afternoon in the area. I think it gets bad right? What time do I have to leave SF to get there at 4pm? I'm thinking 2. Thanks.

I would agree with dirtlips. Leave no later than 1pm. On a Friday, traffic starts getting piled up at 2pm in most exit points (101 N, 80 E, 580 E, 101 S) of the Bay Area. Leave earlier rather than later and you'll have a relaxing drive.

EDIT: Oh wait a minute. That's the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. Leave no later than 12pm (noon)! Everyone and their mother will be getting a half-day from work that day and hitting the road ASAP. Traffic is horrible on the Friday of any major weekend and just about any weekend in summer. Ask me how I know :(

Son of a..........Ha. I guess I will leave right around noon and take her easy up to the track. I've never towed a car (only boats), so I won't mind the slowness.

Good news! I found a "United Rentals" place here in the city that will rent a Ford (ew!) F250 and an equipment trailer that holds up to 6000lbs and can easily put my car on (per the sharp rep on the phone). It will come with chains, the hitch and ball, and insurance for $165. And get this, I told the guy what car I would be towing and that I was taking to the Sacramento Raceway and he said he would cut the mileage charge in half for me to only $.15/mile. Nice huh! Ha.

So out the door for $190 or so. So I think I am set.

Oh, and I plan using my brand new slicks and running low 14's or 13.9's. What do you guys think? I will be learning how to take off with slicks and so I'm pretty sure I will look retarded at first. I'm kinda worried about breaking stuff, so I won't be trying to break any speed records. Ha. Oh, and I have had my drive shaft safety loop welded on already and adjusted my shifter on my rebuilt trans. Good times.................

With your BBC and slicks Im sure you will run better than 14's. You should go low 13's easy with a good launch. Also forgot another buddy is coming with his 73 Challenger.

I would honestly consider leaving at noon or a bit earlier, just to be sure... I get frustrated stuck in traffic, and with a trailer its worse (IMO)... I'd leave, get out of the Bay Area, and maybe stop around Vacaville for a late lunch, etc...

Nothing against them and sometime later I may put one in. But my current smallblock runs 12 flat and should be in the 11's hopefully on the 23rd. Just need to get it hooked up better.

Ill be calling him for tips on that Friday. Ha. He's back in El Paso, Texas. My hometown.

Your gonna have a blast. As far as launching on slicks it should be pretty easy! Drop the tire pressure down to 15 psi or so for starters. The bring the rpm's up to say 3500 and do a quick clutch release not quite a clutch dump. If your motor bogs and hooks then next pass bring the rpm's up a few hundred rpm more until it doesnt bog and just barely spins the tires.

Yea, that was my launch thinking as well.

My motor is a 396 with some slight mods done by previous owners. Comp Cam, 68 Corvette heads, COmp Cams roller rockers, MSD ignition, etc... I have my newly spiffed up M20, and a 3.90:1 posi rear.

With traction that combo has low 13 second potential with ease.....should run real good!

Well the weather should be even better...winds are supposed to be done by later today. The high for friday looks to be right at 74! So it should be nice and cool for the evening!

Sounds like a nice evening. I just installed my radiator overflow can, heat wrapped my speedo cable (where it almost melts from my uncapped headers), and ran it around town and all test ok. I double checked everything for my truck rental and trailer and it is all good!

What kind of gas do they have at the track? Sunoco?

I think they sell Trick fuel..not sure?? Your gonna run your uncapped+race gas! Thats no fair!!!...haha

I finally got into the 11's. My buddy dropped a second in ET by switching to DR's from street tires. JRP916 got his first 12 second slip as well. It was sweet!
