What would some of the symptoms of a bad pinion gear or bearing be.

Either accelerating or decelerating, there will be a change of tone or a whining sound.

I have a vibration under load @ 60to 65mph. If I let off gas or give it gas the vibration seams to go away. I changed U joints, the back one had signs of wear but the front one looked perfect. Installed adjustable upper rear control arms and that didn't help. I noticed that the pinion seal is starting to leak. I never noticed the vibration when I had the th350c in the car. The front pump bushing went out so I replaced the th350c with a 2004r. I still didn't notice vibration, although I didn't drive it much till I had a shop try to install headers. They couldn't install the headers but they installed these free flowing mufflers that drove me crazy. Replaced mufflers with flow master 70 series and toned it down a bit and that's when I noticed the vibration.

Usually when a pinion bearing is going bad its just a noise, like a whining noise. I would be looking at a bad motor or tranny mount.

When You installed the adjustable upper's, did You set the angle correctly?

Usually a vibe at a specific range will be something other then pinion angle. I.E. My shudder was just when You applied power to the drivetrain, just on acceleration. Got My pinion angle set correctly, and it smoothed the whole car out.

these are the umi control arms.Removed one at a time and measured hole to hole and set them according to stock. Marked the flats and turned each one the same to pull pinion angle up or down, depending on the previous adjustment. Just recently pulled drive shaft and used angle finder and made both angles the same. I have new motor and trany mounts. Checked and repositioned torque convertor on flex plate. Checked front balancer. I guess I was hopeing it was the pinion.
