: Combination Valve/Proportioning Valve
mike351 Apr 28th, 08, 1:01 PM Ok, so i have almost everything done on my front disc conversion, except for running the lines. it's a 71 chevelle stock 4 wheel non power drum. Converting only the front drums to disc. I put a new booster and master cylinder/rotors, spindles, and all that, but i can't figure out how to run the lines. the kit that i bought had an adjustable proportioning valve in it but i don't know where it's supposed to be mounted/hooked up. and what is a combination valve? i was told that i need a combination valve, but am not sure what it is for or if i even need it.
The two lines that come from the MC run to this square block which connects to all of the other brakes. Not sure what that is. Distribution block? This post probably doesn't really make any sense.... but any help would be appreciated. If you need pics i can get them asap. Thanks for any help.

BUBBA2711 Apr 28th, 08, 2:35 PM Yeah mike, pics would help. Just curious, i thought the adj prop valve was for 4 wheel disc cars.
mike351 Apr 28th, 08, 3:19 PM yeah that's what i'm trying to figure out. is a combination valve for a drum/disc setup and a adj. prop. for 4 wheel disc? i'll get some pictures by tomorrow for sure.
mike351 Apr 28th, 08, 3:49 PM ok let me clarify a little bit. i believe i already have a distribution block or combination valve mounted (not sure what it is). It's black and it has the 2 lines from the MC running to it, and then from there to the front and rear brakes. do i need to mount the adj. prop. valve after this thing (what is it anyways)?

Elviss 1971 Apr 28th, 08, 5:47 PM Not sure if this helps but I did the front disc brake swap last fall and in my kit (after reading the instructions) I found it had a proportioning valve that mounted where the distribution block is located on the frame rail......so possibly yours mounts there as well and you remove the distribution block completely ?
cs40racing Apr 29th, 08, 1:42 PM the block at the master cylinder is your proportioning valve, you have a distribution block on the frame which came with the car (at least it should have), you run two lines from the proportioning valve to the stock block on the frame (obviously front line for the front brakes, rear line for the rear brakes), bleed brakes, and you're done. :)
g-man65 Apr 29th, 08, 3:22 PM I'll throw my .02 in....remember you had all drums before, so any blocks on the car are for distribution of fluid & holding a residual pressure of fluid that drum brake shoes need to be kept close to the drums....those can stay in place if easier, but only when it concerns the rear remaining drums...the front discs need no residual pressure, hence the proportioning valve.....a combination valve is just what it says, combines everything-proportioning pressure to discs/drums & also holds residual pressure for the rear drums....i used a combo, i just thought a adjustable would be a pita to get right?...i would call yor kit manufacturer & get clarity on the included valve, it may well be a adjustable combo valve, in which case everthing runs thru it, & it mounts where ever you can make it, as long as it is below master cylinder level....g.
