: Rear suspension axel bushings loose?

Stripped the 70 chassis yesterday in prep for blasting. When I disassembled the rear suspension I confirmed boxed stock lower control arms, discovered boxed stock uppers, and all solid bushings (alum).

I was curious if the pitman arm puller would work to press out the bushings in the rear housing. When I went to try it, the driver/side axel bushing moved somewhat freely. I removed it by hand, no tools. Tapped the p/s one out with a few taps of a brass hammer.

I figure that if the loose bushing was ever rotating in the hole in the upper rear axel housing, the alum bushing was the piece that took the wear...but,

does anybody have an axel housing with the bushings out that could give me a very accurate in.diam. measure (caliper type) and

if it's worn (too big) what's the cure?

Thanks in advance!

(P.S.Before I post ads for all the parts I pulled, If anyone in the Atlanta area is looking for stock and boxed suspension parts, factory disk brakes, etc. PM me. I'll send you a list and photos)

If you put steel/rubber stock style bushings back in, you can use a welder and tack them in place. I had one bushing that was loose enough to use a few taps to take it out, but the new one took a little more energy to put back in. Most of mine had to be pressed in, but the directions said if you feel the necessity you may tack weld them in place.
