This is an engine for sale I was thinking about going to check out. I dont know anything about it yet.... But a 468... yum!
"CHEVY 468 Big Block. 4bolt main. New forged pistons. Short block. Needs to be assembled. Comes w/ lots of extras. $1450"

My 350 now is a 2 bolt, what happens when putting in a 4 bolt engine?

Phil,

The issue isn't 4 bolt vs 2 bolt. The issue is Big Block vs Small Block and do you have all the parts to put a big block in your car to replace the small block? Heads, Intake, Carb, Exhaust, Radiator, Trans, Rear, Suspension.

You can do whatever you want as long as you understand what you are getting into and have the money to do it. Unless you have a garage full of big block parts sitting there, you better figure on 3 - 4 time that when done.

If I remember right, weren't you the guy who was always wanting to race the ricers?

I wonder what extras are included? This could be a good deal or a break even depending on the parts included and what machining was done.

And if the piston/cam choice suits your needs, else you're paying alot for block, crank rods, etc.

I want to change my tranny eventually to, to a 4 or 5 speed, maybe a richmond. Im positive I have the room. I wonder about the extras too, im going to call about it right now and see whats up. By the time I get paid it will probably be gone. But a 468 is a bored out 454 right? What exactly happens when an engine is bored out. The pistons and everything go larger right? I've rebuilt a couple of engines here but im still learning alot. :D But I want a 454++ Bored into 468 or 96, hooked into a 4 or 5 speed, probably 5. I have to buy everything anyways Ive got an automatic right now so i'll need basically everything.

I dont know much about BBCs but I beleive that a 496 is a stroker and a 468 is a 454 bored .060 over, meaning that the cylinders measured across are .060" wider than stock. As for the 2 and 4 bolt blocks, that refers to the main caps that hold your crankshaft, it is simply a matter of having 2 bolts in each cap or 4, so it does not effect the outside fit.

496 is a 4.25 stroke/.060 over 454

What exactly is different about the stroker engines?

Like I said before I dont know much about big blocks like what bores and strokes they have but I will give a small block example. A 350 has a stroke of 3.48" meaning that is the stroke of the crank or the distance it pushes the rod. A 400 small block has a stroke of 3.75". If you put a crank from a 400 into a 350 block it turns it into a "stroker" meaning the stroke of the engine has been increased from stock. Putting a 400 crankshaft into a 350 block turns it into a 383. You can also "de-stroke"(may not be the proper term) for example you can use a 400 block and put a crank in it from a 350. This turns it into a 377 giving you less cubes than you started with but they are very high revving engines. Hope that helps out a little bit
