I have been unhappy with the way my exhaust sounds - dual 2-1/2" system with crossover and Flowmaster 50 Series 42551's terminating with 8-1/2" (long) exhaust tips with rolled edges.

It has a kind of "rapping" sound, like low-riders with very small diameter exhausts (although not as extreme as that). One of my professional mechanic friends suggested that the rolled-edge lips on the tips is the cause. He says that the rolled-edge tips cause a restriction, and thus this rapping sound.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks for your help!

Can't help with the tip issue but I'm glad to see you're back. graemlins/waving.gif What's it been, 3 or 4 years?

Three years. Glad to be back, and remembered. Thanks for the kind words, Pat.

BTW, I bit the bullet and went down to the muffler shop and had different tips put on (ones w/o rolled edges) and - voila! - no more "rapping" sound. Amazing.

me too, good to see you back Dave. Feel free to drop in a lot. Most of the usual suspects are still around. How's life?
