i have had this car since i was 11 years old. my dad traded a steering colum out of a '67 impala for 2 '66 chevelle's. my SS and a malibu. i will be 33 this year and just now getting to do all the stuff to the body and frame. i had the frame blasted and powdercoated. i put new tubular A-arms & control arms, all new coil springs, rear disc kit on the 12 bolt, all new lines, cables, new steering components, put together a new +.040 350 with a muncie.

the car is now at the body shop. we are getting ready to put new full quarters, rockers, door skins, fenders, 4" cowl hood. i have already put on a new tail panel, full trunk pan, and replaced driver side floor board @ drivers feet. the car is in pretty bad shape body wise but it was my 1st car. it will be all new when i get done . i will try to get some more picture of progress up as i get farther along.

spent all week on it. i got all the bad parts off the back of the car and fitted most of the new stuff on. i cut both quarters, both rockers, & both outer wheel houses cut off this week. i got the wheel houses and quarters fitted back on. they have to be welded back on yet. going back tommorow to try and get the old door skins off and try to get the new ones fitted back on. i will try to get some more pictures on here.

Am I reading that right? An Impala steering column for 2 '66 Chevelles, one of them an SS? Wow! Your dad is quite the negotiator... or someone REALLY needed a steering column.

Sweet looking car.

I was wondering what kinds of hood pins you have? I also where did you get them from?
thanks

Thanks it has been a lot of work and a lot of fun. yes a steering column. my uncle actually had the cars, sold them to another local guy (which my dad was friends with) and all he wanted was the SS hood. we then traded him the steering column for both cars. the paint is a toyota color (SPEEDWAY blue) the hood pins are made by quick latch. i wanted somthing different and i seen these. they are a fairly expensive but worth it i think.

here is a link to the hood pins

i had to build some brackets to hold the pins. tried them in the top of the core support but with the hood im using it wouldnt work there.

Those are pretty sharp, albeit pricey, latches! So I'm assuming they're used in place of the stock latch, or in addition to?

i'm still using the stock hood catch along with the hood pins. my hood is all fiberglass so i thought it would be a good idea to keep it for little extra security.
i like the a-arms but dont really like the way the coil fits on the driver side bottom (doesnt really seat down where it supposed to). i have called and told them and sent pictures of the problem. they tell me it will be fine. i guess i will have to try it and see.

we used bedliner spray on the bottom ( tried to add pic but it says it is to big). the trunk, inside the doors, and floor pans were sprayed with lizard skin sound deadner. i plan on adding some fatmat (similar to dynamat but cheaper) to the doors and roof. i have a muncie 4 speed in the car now but plans are to put a richmond 6 speed in it. im also going to be changing the tire and wheels. im going to go with some schott americana's 18x8, 18x10, and nitto tires.

Looks great man. Love the hood. I think the steel 2 inch hoods don't look right. They don't flow with the rest of the car.
