I have a 67 Chevelle, manual drum brakes front and back. I've been reading about brake boosters and can't really find the answer that I need. Can I just add one of these brake boosters to give me power brakes or better braking power. If so, what is involved. Is there alot of modifications that need to be made to the wheel cylinders, brake lines, etc., or is it just a matter of pulling the master cylinder, bolting on the booster, then remounting the master cylinder or what. Autozone has a booster with master cylinder for $129.00. ($35.00 core) Is this somewhat of a simple process for the amature, or is this something that requires alot of know how. Can someone explain the process to install one of these systems please. Thanks for any input....

I found these guys to be extremely helpful when I reinstalled mine.

Give them a call if necessary. They should be able to answer all of your questions.

Mark - all the mods are near the firewall. You may want to buy the new master and booster as a kit - that may be your best shot of getting the proper booster pin (yes - there are at least 3 different sizes.) You will need to remove the clevis from the stock MC rod. Attach it to the new booster rod, send it through the firewall, attach it to the LOWER hole on the pedal (yes - your manual setup is attached to the upper). You will also need some kind of bracket to use as a 'stop light switch striker' as they are no longer made. I made one out of a piece of 1/16" thick (light stuff) angle iron. This bolts to the upper hole where your manual MC rod was bolted. Adjust the switch, the booster rod, bleed the brakes.

Thanks Mike and Elm. I'm going to give it a shot. I'm also thinking about doing the front drum to disc conversion while I'm at it. They sell the entire kit. Might as well go all the way I guess.

Mark - be careful - I said the same thing back in January.....now I have 4 way discs from a C5 vette, all new SS lines, adjustable prop valve, new booster and I'm moving to my second MC.....I also now have a collection of things that are supposed to help you bleed brakes. It's a slippery slope!
