I am rebuilding the drum brakes on my 69 Chevelle, and seem to have misplaced the guide that sits on the spring anchor on top of the backing plate. I can't seem to find one at any parts store, and there is not one in the rebuild kit. Do I need to have this washer type guide sitting on the anchor pin or not?
Thanks

I assume you are talking about the Brake shoe guide plate shown in the picture link on here. I didn't have any also and got mine at a wrecking yard in my area. Since the were the same for 68-75 years you should be able to find one that works. I have them listed as part number 247GM in Restoration Parts Catalog from www.oldmusclecars.com

It's surprising how much of this old stuff isn't stocked in the automotive stores any more. The other day I had a broken rocker arm on the 350 in our '69 el Camino. No one, including the GM dealer, stocked them. They could order them, which I did and had my parts the next day. These cars must be getting old.

I was missing those same washers on my '68 project, along with the springs that go on the spreader bars. I ordered them from Inline Tube this past Monday and I had them the next day.

If your talking about the "oblong washer" that's under the springs and on top of the shoes I've got some. Do you need two? I'm gone until Monday but PM your address and I'll send you one or two. Pete
