So im about ready to purchase my first home and one of the garages has room for a lift.

I was shoping ebay and found a 2 post lift for 1400 dollars. Anyone ever bought a lift on or off of ebay. and installed it?

What things do i need to think about. Im kind of on a budget but the idea of having a lift in my garage makes me giddy.

Any thoughts?

I just bought a Backyard Buddy 4 post and couldn't be happier with it.

- It's made in USA. It has a flag sticker on it. That matters to me.
- The welds and powdercoat are phenominal. I work for a company that makes industrial equipment, and we believe our stuff is the best in the industry. The BB matches our industrial quality.
- The structural design is superior. The columns are 4x4 tubes, the cross member sliders are also tubes. The ramps are structural angle with diamond plate running surface.
- The sheaves are steel with brass bushings and grease fittings.
- The hardware has names that I know and trust from my 25 years in industry.... Baldor motor, Carr-Lane hardware, Albion castors, etc.
- I like a 4 post because it's mainly for storage. But if I want to work on brakes or wheels, I just jack them up right on the lift.

Yeah, I paid more for it, 2x the Chinese units on eBay. But what's the car on it worth? Or the garage it sits in (close to a wall)? Or my other car parked under it? Or me when I am working on a car on it???

Watch the video, and you will be spoiled. Nothing else will do.

There is an online auction in our area that sells alot of car stuff. There was a saturn dealer that moved and sold all of it's lift in the service area. most went for 600-800 dollars. try checking out ones in your area.

i would look around for a used comercial lift-i have a 7000 lb rotary in my garage- when i built the garage, i installed roof trusses in one bay that would give me enough head room
i also added extra cement where it would bolt down-i like the lifts that have the cables overhead, not across the floor, makes it easier to roll around a trans jack

For a 2 post make sure that your concrete is rated and has the proper thickness as recommended by the lift manufacturer. If it's not up to par you should cut out a portion and pour a proper footing for it to mount to. 4 posts don't require as much since the load is distributed over twice as many points. With casters you can also move it if need be.

I'm not sure ebay is the place I would be looking for a lift. Buy one made in the USA from a reputable manufacturer. This subject has been covered many times.

Just remember when you are working under 2 tons of automobile do you really want to cheap out your lift?

I was looking at lifts on www.gregsmithequipment.com. I went and looked at the Pro Park 8 series lift a while back. I like the way they are built, just a matter of coming up with the funds to get it.

Ya know, with my 4 post, I didn't give any consideration at all to the thickness of my slab. The lift weighs 2000lb. The Chevelle weighs what, 4500? That combined is what my truck weighs with nothing in it. So, it's 6500 on the lift column pads, or 6500 on the truck tires. But I have no problem with driving the truck in the garage with 2000 lb of stuff in the bed.

Other than easier access to the wheels and brakes, I don't see the appeal of a 2 post. It seems like interior work or something like that would be impossible cuz the posts would be in the way.

Why would you need to lift a car to do interior work? :D

I have a 3 car garage on the house, and a 4 car in back. Every space is dedicated for something. One space is dedicated to the lift/Chevelle, the Chevelle parks on the lift. While doing the 5 speed conversion, I was in the interior as much as under the hood.
