Is anyone using a edelbrock 750 cfm manual atop a 396 or similar BBC with the main purpose of street use? If so, what jets, and springs are you using? I need a starting point to begin a tune up. TIA.

We are using one of those carbs on my Dad's 396. His engine is a mild 8.5:1, w/ a 204/214 @ 0.050 cam, performer intake, and stock manifolds ('70 Chevelle). The carb was pretty rich out of the box. I think we settled on something like 8% lean on criuse and something like 4-8% lean on power enrichment (using whatever rods and jets Edelbrock specified on thier tuning graph in the instrction manual).

If you have an engine that makes a lot of vaccum at cruise, it will probably be WAY rich out of the box. The way we set it up, it seems to do OK now... I think Dad got like 18-19 mpg when he drove up to the ACES meet in Buffalo (3.08 gears).

The one annoying thing with this carb, is that it has a very slight off-idle hesitation at tip-in, and I cannot seem to tune it out, no matter what I do. Anyone else have this problem with a 1407 E-brock?

EDIT: Just saw your sig.... you are running much more cam... I'll bet you will need the carb to be richer at cruise, since you will have less vaccum... I'd try it out of the box first, and go from there.
