I was wondering if anyone knew what year and engine this delco solenoid was original for? The part # stamped on the housing is 1114344.

Looking for the correct one for a 66 BB starter # 1107365. My book say the solenoid should be part # 1114458; but that might be a superceeded number since the book is from 1975.

Another guy is trying to sell me a solenoid with part # 1114356, which he says is correct for a 66 BB.

Don't know if you book shows this info but mine does.

65-75 All........................1114458 solenoid (stamped 1107365, 7388, 7497,7712,8338,,8400,1114356,4339,1108195,8195)

1114458 is the service part number, the stamped numbers are what was used on production units.

According to the AC Delco catalog dated 1992, only 1114458 was a current part number, the rest do not exist in the book. The AC Delco parts number would be D981.

Since the book was published in 75, I thought that maybe the 1114458 replaced either one or both of the other numbers. Maybe someone with an original parts book from 66 can answere this question.

My parts book is dated 1972 and it shows 65-72 replacement as #1114356 so I'm assuming the service part replacement number changed between 72 and 75. Given that, I don't know why the current 1114458 wouldn't be as correct as the 1114356. :confused: Appearance wise, it there anything physically different in 65-72 solenoids?

I made a mistake on the part number of the solenoid that I have and have corrected the number in the above posts.

Thanks Dale, I have photo's of the 1114458 and the 1114356. They look somewhat alike except the 1114458 is brown and the 1114356 is black on the end.

The 1114344 that I have looks exactly like the photo's I have of the 1114356. There is no date code stamped on the 1114344 that I have and since 344 is before 356 assume it is an earlier solenoid, if that helps.

Maybe someone with a Delco book could help.

Thanks Mike, The solenoid I have is off a Delco starter for a gm application; but I don't know if the solenoid is original to that starter. It is off a 57 chev starter delco 1107652 for a 6 cylinder. My thinking is that it was a later solenoid; but maybe it is original to the starter. When I check the 1114344 (the one I have), the 1114356, and the 1114458 ac solenoid they all seem to be preplaced by the same aftermarket solenoid.
