69 Ratt Vette

I am new at the automatic tranny game. I am getting together a 2200 lb 63 vette that I am going to eventually run a heavy nitrous 555 in. Shooting for around 900 N/A and then spray up to 500-600 more on a two stage fogger.
I went by a well known performance tranny builder today and he reccomended a 9" converter for this combination. I am hearing from my friends (also knowledgable) that a 9" will not hold this thing and I need a 10"
Help!

call some of the reputable converter companies and see what they recommend. At that level your probably looking at one of theose $2K powerglides. My local engine builder runs them, but i don't know much more than that about them.

The 10" will be too inefficient if it stalls where you will need it. I'm guessing 5000+ RPM. You will need a 9" or maybe even an 8". We ran a glide with a 427 and nitrous on a rail about 2000 lbs with driver. We had an 8" converter that stalled at 6300 RPM in the car with similar hp/tq to what you are looking at and ran 7.50's.

I may be a little off but the big torque of that 555 and the spray would probably make a 9.5" or 10" nitrous style converter necessary.
I bet you couldn't tighten an 8" enough to keep that 555 from driving thru it like it was in neutral when you push the button.
Talk to some of the good converter companies and they'll get you on track. No matter what, it's gonna be a high dollar piece so be prepared.

Thanks for the help and comments
Troy70SS: Just so I understand; you ran a car with similar power and weight to mine with an 8" and it worked fine at 7.50's ? That is the number I am trying to run this car to.
