I raced in the Summit Points race at Commerce this weekend. I went out in the 4th round. Lost the race by .008! I was up against the track champion from the previous two years Jacob Rutledge. It was so close at the stripe I thought I beat him. Here's a video:

It may not look as close in the video due to the camera angle. Here is the timeslip. I had to retype it because the ink was so light on the slip it wouldn't show up well in a scan.

Bracket racing is much harder than I ever imagined it would be. All in all it was a good day. I've managed to get myself back into the points standings. With 4 races left I think I still have a shot at a top 10 finish assuming I can go some rounds each race. The Division 2 finals will be ran in Atlanta this year. It would be nice to go to the division finals and race at my home track.

Ken, he tree'd you! But I guess that is why he is track champ. Congrats on going the rounds though. You always seem to be going deep into the rounds. Nice work. It is definately hard to do!

Nice going Ken,

This is my first season in Points. I can't believe the added stress before each race compared to just running for fun and tuning the car. This is the longest time period I have done nothing to make the car quicker.

I have mixed feelings on it but I will probably do it again next year. The Top 2 in "Street" go to the bracket Finals at Dragway 13 in Delaware at the end of September.

Thats what happens Tom, you just want to leave well enough alone, don't want to mess with anything. At least thats how I am,don't touch the car all week unless something needs tended to,I'll lash the valves this week and wait til saturday.

Hey Ken- I'd say anytime you hold Rutledge to within .008 you are doing good. graemlins/thumbsup.gif I can't get a break here lately myself. Last week in the semis I went .492 red and was 7.606 on a 7.61 to my opponents .506 7.56 on a 7.52. I think I could backed up to that. graemlins/angry.gif This past weekend I .532 7.650 on a 7.66 to my opponents .506 6.968 on a 6.96  . Been putting down good runs just can't get a break. I think I am going to step out of the driver's seat some and let my Dad do some driving and I'll do the crewing. :D

It was VERY close! :(
We were all standing near the finish line and had to look up at the lights to see who had won.
Funny to hear the kids (Kenny's pit crew) moan at the very end of the video...

Thanks for the props, guys. No doubt bracket racing is ultra competitive, but I think for me that is the real appeal.

Chad,

I'm not surprised that you've heard of Jacob Rutledge up your way. He's recently won a few high dollar ($10k I think) bracket races in nearby states. The guy is a helluva racer.

Tom,

I understand your frustration. I prolly shouldn't have swapped intakes in the middle of the season, but I missed two races when my tranny went south so I figured what the heck. I expect to be a better racer next year. This was my first full year of trying to bracket race.

Thanks again.

Thanks again. Thanks Ken,

Actually I am not too frustrated, The car is very consistent and I have had more time with my family. I am in first place in points with 15 or 16 rounds ahead of the guy in 3rd, hopefully hang on to at least 2nd to make the bracket finals in Delaware. My track will only take the top 2 points earners in the street legal class.

Hey Ken, great numbers. I am Bill that bought your Vic Jr. Just got it back from Mondello so am anxious to get it on the car. I look forward to seeing that beautiful car of yours on the track when I get back down to GA. Bill.

About 6 Chevelles and a 67' Camaro last count ;)
