I read a reply you had about the profile of the cam lobe on the exhaust and you may have been describing what I have HEARD for a long time. For some reason it has always been in the bad boy door cars at my track but me and my friend affectionately call the exhaust melody we here by very few as a "tweeter". We always thought it was the headers and heads that made this almost tweeting sound. Did I read that you are responsible for that tweeting music?

Hey while I have you ear (maybe not, but I'll humbly ask) perhaps you can suggest a better cam for my heap.
1700lb race weight RE Dragster stiff 230" Horton. Coan 6100 measured after shift with trend converter with HP only
4.30:1 gear
1.80 glide
33.5" X 17 Goodyear D2032 tire
Borla new style down swept SS 2-3/8 headers
Pan o duct vents no vac pump
2100cfm methanol injection
14.4:1 cr JE piston 37cc dome
Oliver knock off steel +250 rods
internal Cola crank
heavy rotation with BOB @ 2301g Dart 320 heads ported by dart 355cfm intake runner, 110 chamber 384 @ .700 intake 274 @ .700" exhaust.
Short deck Mark V bowtie not filled
Danny Bee belt drive
crane 99880 springs
Jessel 1.7 shaft rockers
Cam now.. Crane R-284/456-2S-12 lash .026 hot
Lift .775/.740
Dur 284/296 lsa 112
timing
int 33.0 btdc 71.0 abdc 107 max
exh 83.0 bbdc 22.0 atdc 117
cam degree
Set with full all valves to 35 btdc intake and 85 bbdc exhaust Indicated 4A on belt for real 2A

This cam is pretty easy on the H-11 springs and I get around 200 passes before the dampener and inner spring start to bust.

Car runs so so, but would like some more. Not interested in more MPH looking for better ET. in 1000' air will run 7.58 @ 177 with consistent 1.10 to 1.09 60 foots. I have the weight set so the front just picks up about 3" and than settles back.
I leave at 4400 shift at 7200 traps 7400

With 4 sec of 180hp Cheater NOS runs 1.05 60' and 7.2 to 7.3 @ 180 Stall is +200rpm with NOS adder

Paul,

I'm not certain about the 'tweeting', I've always called it a 'crackle', but everyone tells me my cams have an unique sound....

You didn't say what size BBC you have in your RED, but here are a couple, some old and proven, others waiting for the masters to be made...
.020 D .050 D .200 D valve lift, 1.7
318/325 284/292 199/205 .774/.774
321/329 288/296 206/209 .772/.765
--new stuff, masters coming--
315/323 284/292 207/215 .775/.775
319/326 288/295 210/216 .775/.750

By way of comparison, your Crane cam:
.0162D .050 D .200 D valve lift
324/336 284/292 195/206 .775/.740
I would rate the Crane about 318-320/330 at .020.

The 318/325 is extremely easy on valve train, SBCs turn 10,000+ with this one.
The 321/329, in a 555 with Sonny Bryant heads, sheet-metal manifold, blew the seals twice and broke the torque arm once on a Stuzka dyno, in Houston, Tex. The dyno was only rated to 1000 BHP...
LSA will depend upon CID of you engine....
The new stuff is SOME of what I've designed in the past few months.
.456 lobe family .4414 lobe family
315---284---207 308---277---199
319---288---210 312---281---203
323---292---214 314---283---205
326---295---217 316---285---207
329---298---218 322---291---213
333---302---222 326---295---217
All these require at least 240 lbs on the seat.
I will probably make the ones mentioned first...

UDHarold, Thanks for the fast reply.. can't believe I left that details off with all the other stuff my brain purged. It's a 555cid. 4.25" arm for 4.560" bore.

Please let me know if that makes a difference in your design and recomendation.... I'm getting ready for next year or the next time I pull it. I plan to change out the rods for like, but new and new wrist pins, lifters, gas port the pistons and touch hone the block...
Thanks graemlins/hurray.gif
