Thinking of pulling the 4.56 gears out of my '70 and going to something more conservative (and quieter). I posted a while back under "why no 11 sec timeslip?" and have a torque heavy EFI 482 w/ a T56 trans. 12.02 is my best ET w/ marginal 1/8 mile time (7.824 w/ 1.64 60') Wants to come out of 1st like right now! Do you think I'll take a hit at the strip, or even improve ET? Best MPH has been 116.7
Thanks, Bruce

Trap RPM is about 5800-5900. I run a 30x9 slick on a 8" rim. It seems to want to pull to 6k, but w/ the current eng. setup, it probably makes 500+ lb-ft from 3000-5000 rpm. Search "why no 11 sec timeslips" for more detail.

you might consider downloading this handy rpm calculator. http://www.5speeds.com/rpm.htm

your timeslip from the other post:

60’ – 1.64
594’(?) – 7.342
1/8 mi ET – 7.824
1/8 mi MPH – 93.38
¼ mi ET – 12.033
¼ mi MPH – 114.62

it looks to me with 30" tall tires, 4.56s, t56 and a 6000 redline you are going into 4th before you hit the 1/8th mile mark.

according to the calculator you are at 88mph at the top of 3rd. if you went with 4.11s you would be at 98mph at the top of 3rd. that would get you through the 1/8th mile before having to shift to 4th.

just my opinion.
