I worked on my customers 69 Chevelle and I was installing new wheels and tires. In order to install the new wheels the studs seemed a little short because of these thick brake drums. So we ordered new steel drums and that got our clearance better and more wheel stud also. Has anyone ever ran into these brake drums? They are like new.

I've had the aluminum drums on Novas and Camaros and used Dorman studs for a 60's Corvette that are about 1/2" longer.

Don't toss them, the drag racers like them because they're worth about .05 seconds. :)

I think they came on late 70s or 80s Monte Carlos IIRC.

they came on every GM rwd car from 78-88 that didn't have a posi rear end. they came on S series trucks without posi, as well.
they made millions of cars and trucks with them, but they wore out faster than the steel drums and got replaced with steel parts over the years. GM discontinued them years ago, and no one else bothered to tool up to make them. it's a rarity to find usable parts any more, and if you do, grab them- they go for a couple hundred $$$ each on ebay.
there was one guy on www.turbobuick.com that was looking into making some a few months back, but i don't know what came of it.
