Good article,I saw it advertised on this month's HR but could not find it on their website.I wonder how that mini blower will act on a 402.I already have all the hardware to retrofit the 402 to a hyd. roller set up and was thinking about the blower for my '72 3/4 ton build up.Any comments or ideas?HF

That motor has been sitting around the Primedia shop for a while...the story is probably 3 years old so I would go digging for back issues of HR.

Regardless, good reading IMHO..gives people an idea on changes/baselines w/ peanut ports, cam swaps, etc. That motor would have been sweet if they just bolted on a pair of large oval, closed chamber heads and a small solid cam.The quarter mile predictions are laughable though.

Chris, I totally agree, it's hard to find any info on peanut port buildups. Usually you'll read about only one or two iterations in a mag article, usually a cam swap or an intake swap, so it's cool to see so many different combinations tested.

This is just why I wished we could buy a set of Merlin cast-iron ovals with 90 cc chambers and that used a 100 percent stock valvetrain!!

Slap the puppy's on a flat-top piston 454 P/U motor to up it's sick 7.9 to 1 CR. and add a mild solid lifter street cam, a good inexpensive carb. and intake system and a set of headers and go have more fun then the Law allow's!!!

Back again!!

Anybody know anymore about having to use .100" longer pushrods when using stock rockers with the Merlin ovals???

Good Article, glad too see that they're making so much power with such little compression.

pdq - i don't think i used the longer pushrods when i installed my Merlins but i would have to check.

Im finally back on the Island and back to my car smile.gif

The car needs a lot of work, but its getting there.

No Merlins, but you can get the Edelbrock Alum ovals in a 100CC angle cut version. Brings the CR up to an acceptable level.
