OK, I'm in the process of dail in my bell housing. I keep reading to attach the indicator to the flywheel, couldn't I just attach it to the crank with out the flywheel on? I mean your dailing it to the crank. Thanks in advance.

That is correct. the crankshaft will work just as well as the flywheel. Its just easier to do it on the flywheel if you have a good magnetic base for the indicator.

Hey Bum, how close did yours run. I'm doing the same thing myself this weekend. Mine dialed in .012" on the low side. I will need .007" offset dowels. I'm going to check the parts stores first to see if they might be available locally. If they don't have them I guess I'll get them from Summit.

Do yourself a big favor and get these (http://www.robbmcperformance.com/products/dowels.html). BTDT and the press in ones are not user friendly.

I lucked out, I picked up the bell housing from someone who "said" they were dailed in @ .002" w/ stock pins, so I put on mine & I dialed in @ .004" (after dividing by 2).

.004" is within the range so you should be good. What trans are you installing? A tremec requires tighter tolerances than a muncie, as long as it is below 5 thous out you should be fine. While the bellhousing does generally require alignment, I needed to do it because my engine has been line honed, moving the crank.

That is nice to be albe to use stock pins. I'm happy enough with .012" reading, (.006" off center), .007" offset dowels should put it nearly right on.
Philip, those RobbMc dowels look like the ones to get, thanks for the tip!
