: Rust on Dash Under Windshield...
TooLgasm Apr 20th, 08, 3:57 PM Hey everyone...
I recently bought a '69 2dr sedan "Post" Chevelle. The car recieved a frame off restoration around 3yrs ago and looks great. However, it would appear that the restoration neglected the dashboard. I can see some rust in the crevice where the dash meets the windshield. I was aware of this rust prior to bying the car, so there were no surprises here.
My question: How big of a job would this be to remediate?
Thanks in advance for your opinions/advice!
Brian

Andy69 Apr 20th, 08, 6:52 PM It coiuld be huge, it could be minor. You might be opening up a can of worms by digging into it.
cromedss Apr 20th, 08, 7:57 PM Andy is right...If you don't plan on repainting I wouldn't touch it yet. I just did mine and thought things looked pretty good after removing the windshield. After poking around with a screw driver I found otherwise. I had to replace the lower dash to cowl panel and will need to do some work on the pillars as well.
strangler Apr 21st, 08, 3:53 PM Were you able to buy that piece? My NPD and Muscle Factory catalogs did not list a replacement....
TooLgasm Apr 21st, 08, 10:01 PM Thanks for the warnings all... I may just let it slide a bit. The car hasn't seen any rain since the restore. It won't either.
Strangler, I have not even looked into getting any parts yet.

Greetings from Canada.
Sorry guys (and Gals), the golden rule(s) on my 68 SS are as follows:
1). It's ALWAYS huge.
2). It's NEVER minor.
3). It's ALWAYS a can of worms that needed to be opened but you really didn't want to, and you hoped it was small... but it wasn't.
Mine was as ignorant of a repair as it could have been.
(whole cars been this way)
I am learning this welding thing the hard way, one rotten rusty piece of metal at a time .
Wish you better luck.
On mine I had to keep cutting (all the way through to the firewall).
mattkinel Apr 22nd, 08, 1:06 AM Hey Brian, I have the same problem. In the last Ground Up catalog they had the piece advertised as "comming soon, being tooled". It was advertised as being $50. I have the new catalog and it isn't in there. I need the part and am emailing Ground Up to see if they have the part. My email is mattkinel@hotmail.com. Shoot me an email asking about the part to make sure I follow up with the Ground Up guys. When I hear from them ill be sure to tell you!

gr8apmech Apr 22nd, 08, 5:18 AM Just recieved the new catalog. Pg 119 shows a Dash Repair/Winshield Channel available:
RDP-430 1964-67 all $49.95
RDP-1424A 1968-72 all $79.95
ss396boy Apr 22nd, 08, 12:06 PM The problem with the channel is it's one of those "trim to fit" pieces. You have to cut it up to make it fit right. It made for a 70-72 I think, you just have to cut the ends off. Here is a pic of my repair, before and after:
