I don't know if it was a repeat, but they were retesting their JATO Impala experiment. This time they used a pretty nice 67 Caprice hardtop. At least they could have used a 4-door. Cripes they aren't making any more of these.

I want to make a movie someday where I gratuitously destroy original prints of classic movies, just for the heck of it. See how THEY like it.

i don't get why they couldn't just use a mid 80's Caprice or LTD or something. same weight, about the same aerodynamics, and dirt cheap.

They do it because, just like anyone else on TV, they want attention. Attention = money for their programs via sponsors.

actually, i get the impression that they could genuinely care less if the show keeps going or not. they probably have the most fun of anyone on tv, and if it went away tomorrow, they'd still be able to fall back on their old careers as special effects guys for hollywood studios.
as for why they chose the car they did- i think it was to try to remain as true to the original myth as possible- and it involved an old Impala with a JATO rocket strapped to it, so that's what they used. and they aren't car guys- that old Impala is just another old car to them ,and they are in california, where solid old cars are like castles in Scotland- to those of us that aren't there all the time, they are glorious examples of our great past, but to the locals, they are just more old junk that is just sitting there cluttering up the landscape.

but if they absolutely positively have to use a classic, at least make it a 4-door.

I nominate Andy as the charter member of the Classic Chevy Protectionist League (unless they are 4 doors or other models Andy does not like!)

I caught that episode last night too and was commenting to my gf about the same thing. Its a shame these show buisness people have no respect for this stuff.

I thought the same thing. They didnt have to go out and get the exact same car that the myth is supposed to be about, or, even a clean example. I was glad to see someone grabbed the 65 when he sold it though, at least that got rescued, but since this one blew up before it hit the ramp. Im sure they are going to try it again for a future episode and another one will be ruined. Any full size gm 4 door would have been enough.

They need to smash that ugly POS Toyota Tundra that they have.
