: M22 Trans
hotrod66chevelle Apr 19th, 08, 2:11 PM A friend of mine just purchased a 67 RS/SS Camaro with a 4 spd. The car was wrecked 22 years ago and has been sitting ever since. He checked the numbers on the trans and decoded it as being a M22 orignally out of a Corvette.
The main case number is 3885010
Side cover is 3884685
Build date is July 11th 1967
From what he could tell the trans if from a 67 L88 427 430 HP Corvette and only 20 were produced with this trans. Is this correct? If so what do you think the trans is worth?
Thanks

Exactly other than word of mouth makes you think its a M-22
Need more numbers and pics not to mention any grooves on input??
Mike Apr 19th, 08, 2:58 PM Ditto the additional numbers.
What's the stamped code? VIN #?

I'm not going by word of mouth, thats why i provided the numbers from the case and side cover. I by no means know for sure its an m22 thats why i was asking if the numbers indicate the trans is or is not. What other numbers do you need? I know there are numbers behind the shifter but the trans is still in the car, therefore I can not provide you with those numbers or the information the the input shaft.
Lets ASSUME it is a m22 out of a 67 vette L88 and only 20 were produced, whats it worth.
Thanks

Hell Mike
I believe I will put that in my favorites that pretty much covers the gamut of any I have seen. So far the only thing that tells me its a 67 is the 010 Main case. The ID numbers are on rt side close to mid plate should start with P FOR MUNCIE I dont know of anyway to ID a early 22 wo seeing inside it I mean you can get the date code But I dont think 67 has the A/B/C/ configuration yet?????

Playing the devils advocate for a moment If indeed that were true?
You could verify it. THE DATE CODE would be worth more than its worth .
At best it would be a purist deal . The M 22 early IMO were not as strong as the later 70 and later due the big mainshaft all the way thru fine spline no rings and 400 yoke 26 in put 32 out
Mr Chevelle Apr 19th, 08, 7:20 PM Case numbers are case numbers, I would open it for a look. After forty years things could have changed.......
fast67vellen2o Apr 19th, 08, 8:37 PM You have a 99% chance of it NOT being an M22 with an 010 case.
Dave Birdwell Apr 19th, 08, 11:10 PM Does it have a drain plug in the lower RH side of the case, below the fill plug?

hotrod66chevelle Apr 20th, 08, 6:06 PM Sorry about the pics, Im not real good with computers! Also if there are any more questions about the trans let me know. I took more pictures just did not post them. My buddy wants to sell this trans so I'm trying to help him out and I know you guys can give a good estimate on value. Thanks again!
Dave Birdwell Apr 20th, 08, 7:48 PM Hmm, that does look like an M22 from what I see. Gears look like they are in good shape too. Must have came from a 67 L78 Chevelle built at Fremont Ca.
ls6ragtop Apr 20th, 08, 8:28 PM As Dave points out, trans is not from a Corvette as the V.I.N. tells us. This trans has been apart before as evidenced by the replacement 3-4 synchronizer slider design. The photos don't show the drain plug which would help to point it in the right direction but again could have drilled- added at a later date as could the gearset have been added.
Gearset is in decent shape, kind of hard to tell engagement teeth wear with gear lube on them, but 1st and 2nd show some appreciable wear. Without knowing where the car it came from is, I would value it like any other used M22 and put a value of anywher between $1500-$2000 if the gearset is original GM, not aftermarket.

Mr Chevelle Apr 20th, 08, 8:34 PM I searched ebay for M22 completed listings and came up with listed prices ranging from $1550 to $2195. Some said rebuilt....about a dozen M22s total with only a few marked sold.
