Got back a little while ago. He said a hip replacement is in my near future, the other hip isn't far behind either! My back is building scar tissue and that will have to be addressed in a year or two depending how pills work for the pain. My heart checked out fine!
At least my new fear was put at ease for now. I thought I was becoming diabetic. The Dr said not yet, BUT I have to drop some serious weight and watch my diet. He said my syptoms are hypoglycemia (sp?) and if I don't lose the weight and get more excercise I WILL become diabetic. I sure don't want that for sure!:noway:

A friend of mine went thru 2 hip replacements, one on each said in a year and a half time. The first one the Doctors and the Medical plan were playing games with each other that lasted almost a year. Than the second one, the same BS started again witht he Medical plan and the Doctors. After many on phone hours fighting with the medical plan he hung up on them after saying his lawyer will be talking to them. The next day they called him and started planning the date. That really surprised me.
He is like new again, no more limping or pain.

I have an artificial hip, all I can say is if I knew it was going to be this good I would have done it sooner.

glad to hear the ticker is fine.
sorry to hear about the hips though, but I hear that (as some said here) that you'll be happier after their done.

Do whatever you can to ward off the diabetes..........
I have been diabetic for about 5 years & have had Multiple Sclerosis for 10 & without being able to exercise its tough to control the sugar without drugs.

no cure for MS so I'm stuck with that & the diabetes.

good luck.

Glad you didn't get the worst news. This getting older sometimes sucks although it's better than the alternative. Pete

Drs idea about weight loss is usually way off. minje said years ago that I was supposed to be at 205 lbs. I have'nt been that light since my sophmore yar in high school. I was really overweight a few years ago a nd was diagnosed with diabetes. stopped drinkin g pop and lost 40lbs.
My brother inlaw has a bad hip and the Dr told him to wait about 10 years because he was too young. figure that one out.

Before I got hurt 10 years ago I stayed around 195lbs which some might say was a little heavy for someone at 5'7". After surgery I am almost an inch shorter and after not being able to get around that great I'm at 275lbs.
Before I got hurt I would run a mile before climbing into the truck to go out on deliveries every day. Now I am lucky if I can walk for more that 20 or 30 minutes. By then I'm hurting so bad I have thrown from the pain. up after getting out side the store! I have been treating pain with heat, ice and streatching excercises. I only take Tylenol (last 6 years). I used to sneak a Vicodin once in a while but the Doc quit prescribing them. Now he is trying an anti inflamitory. I used them tears ago to no avail but this is a new one, so maybe!:)

Watch the tylenol. My aunt took that for years and now she has cirrhosis of the liver because of it.

I hope you aren't in alot of constant pain, as I was given a box of celebrex samples, and, honestly ibuprofen works better. The celebrex is useless. Whatever the script only NSAID they removed from the market, (I forget the name) did work. But make sure to let the doc know how you feel about the heart and stomach problems associated with both script and OTC NSAIDs. Tylenol is generally save (save for the liver) but generally also very weak. Doctors seem to have some sort of irrational fear of having people on pain meds (real ones) as they may become dependent, which is natural given the drug, and really nothing to worry about if you understand what is going on and how you may need to taper off the drug when you don't need it anymore.
I can't speak towards hip replacements, but just know that over the last 15 years or so, they have kept lowering the level to declare people "pre-diabetic." right now the range is 100-125 is "pre-diabetic" I believe anyway, I "scored" a 101 and was told to "watch it." Then the doctor said a few years ago a 101 would not even be flagged. So just keep in mind where you are in the "pre-diabetic" range. Aside from soda, if you drink alot, you may want to look into cutting that down as far as getting diabetes goes. I'm not sure what "alot" is, but it is more than going out every week or two and > 6 beers.

Anyway-- good luck and keep in good health. You only get once chance here, and well, if you live past your early 30s, do what you can to keep on truckin'
