I am swapping from manual to power steering. The rag joint currently installed is in very good shape but I was wondering if I can use it. Is there a difference in rag joints for manual and power steeering boxes?

The manual steering flexible coupling has a different spline from the flexible couplings designed for power gears. The power gear had a 13/16 inch diameter input shaft through the 1976 model year. The shaft was changed to 3/4 inch diameter for the 1977 model year. So there are two distinct flexible couplings for power steering gears. So there are two possibilities depending upon the year of your power gear.

Unfortunately, the 3/4 inch power gear has more splines than a 3/4 inch manual gear shaft. Therefore, a manual gear flex coupling will not correctly bolt up to a power gear with a 3/4 inch shaft.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll have to add that to my shopping list.
