OK, say I opt for a new carb to replace my 850 DP, I am looking at either the Holley 4150HP or the Holley 4150 not HP, or the Mighty Demon Barry Grant. I would like more low end performance, dont want to sacrafice horsepower on the higher end. Is it possible with any of the above carbs AND what size cfm
Based on the following, can you recommend which one.

468
Rectangular GM 990 heads
Full hydraulic Roller setup Lift .595/.612 Duration 242/252
Edelbrock RPM air gap
10.5 to 1 forged pistons
4 speed
4.11 rear

950HP graemlins/thumbsup.gif
They really only flow about 820-830cfm,so don't be afraid.

Ok, Is this the correct model number for the HOlley 950HP ? This is what I found at Summit. (HLY-0-80577 Chevrolet big block 2 x 4 blower calibration, model 4150 HP, classic finish, no choke, 950 cfm, four-barrel, carburetor)

They buy mass parts from Holley and assemble them to specs and check for problems.
I have one of there carbs and it works great.Got it off Ebay too.
Check this out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2452089225&category=33550

Compared to Jeg's http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=714&prmenbr=361

If it sells before you get to it.Don't worry it will be relisted, just check back under their user name (hpcarbs).

If you call them they might just sell you one for the same price.

Yes the 950HP is a great carb that flows 830 cfm. However, will it be worth it? that's up to you. Expect crisper idle response over the 850. I did tests back to back between my 850 DP and a 950HP with no difference in ET or mph on a 468 combo.

The 950 uses 750 venturis and an 850 baseplate. I use an box stock 4150 style 850 DP part number 4781 on my current combo.

On the street I believe the 950 gives better part throttle to WOT responce,as well as a smoother more consistant idle.

Thanks, I just posted another question in this part of the forum as to whether I can use a drop based air cleaner. With my current 850DP I am using a drop based one that is 1 3/4 inch with a 3 x 14 air cleaner. I hope I the Holly 950HP can accomodate a drop base air cleaner too ?

I have the BG Mighty Demon on my 506" stroker, haven't driven it though so I have no actual hands on experience with it. Don't want to change the subject on this post but I have a question on Holley vs. Demon carbs, on my dyno sheet, from what I see they ran a 1000hp Holley carb on the dyno, would that produce better hp/tq numbers than the BG Mighty Demon which flows at 850cfm I think?

Don't know.

From an earlier post by a Holley worker who questioned the Holley Tech's about the 1000HP...

The 1000HP only flows about 870cfm.
Compared to the standard Holley stuff HP carbs respond better from idle to WOT.They also respond better from part throttle to WOT.Idle is better too.
I think that is why they are so popular.
