: Frame/Motor Mounts

I have a 70 Chevelle that originally had a 307; I also have a 73 Chevy truck with origianal 454 & TH400 that will go into the Chevelle. I know the frame mounts for a Chevelle are different for a 307 and 350 & up... I was told that the frame/motor mount set-up from the truck will physically bolt up to the Chevelle cross-member and sit at the correct height. I realize this set-up is not "correct" as for originality; but will it work- or do I just need to find the right frame mounts. I was also told that the clam-shell style mounts on the truck were stronger than the Chevelle set-up. Any thoughts or experience with this?

Thanks,

Eric

No experience with truck stuff but I would really be surprised if they work. You could use the 307 stands/mounts but the best would be 350/BB stands/mounts..........

Edit: You more than likely will need a Chevelle specific oil pan.

Well, I just did the exact opposite of that. I took the 454 out of my Chevelle and put it in my wife's truck. The engine mounts might fit the chevelle frame. Go to the parts store, buy one, and take it home and see if it fits. If it does, buy another one. If it doesn't, take it back and return it. Or for that matter, take one out of your truck and see if it'll line up. You'll have the engine out of both vehicles, so it shouldn't be hard to check for fit.

Pat's right though, you may need to get a Chevelle specific oil pan.

Why make this out to be so hard?? Just buy a pair of new 307 rubber motor mounts for the 70 Chevelle and bolt them to the 454. New mounts should have the interlock, then you're good to go.
