Here's the combo....
383 ci
rpm air gap intake
10.3:1 comp
AFR 190cc heads
HEI distributor
cam undecided, approx 247 @ .050, solid f/t, 110 LSA
1 5/8 primaries
4-speed manual
3300 lbs
3.73 rear
28" tall slicks on race day

Will be expected to run low 12sec qtr times. Intended to be a true street/strip engine, driven mostly on weekends, in most temperatures.

I was recommended by a few guys on this board to run the new HP model 750 D/P no choke carb. Just rang Holley and they recommended the 4779 carb. It's a 750 D/P with manual choke, because the HP carbs wont work with my HEI.

So.... My question is.... What carby/dizzy will work BEST for ME? Should I upgrade to an MSD unit and run the HP carb? Sorry for the long post. Will appreciate any comments.

TIA, OzRod

OzRod.........if you really want the HP type 750 dont let the vacume port deal stop you....we build our BIGS Stage 5 750 with a BILLIT base that has 3 vacume ports for what ever you need to run....we also use the Holley HP main body in this build with our BILLIT metering blocks also.........this way theres no need for the MSD dizzy........The HP carb is a great peice and will work well on your 383......let me know if we can help......Thanx allot, Jesse @ BIGS!!

Ok great. Thanks Jesse for the quick reply. That understood.... Is the proform body the same deal? Does it give me the same benefits as far as the extra vacuum ports?

Just wondering what you guys think will run best for my specific engine.

Maybe someone could give me a quick lesson on what a Proform body is and its benefits?

OzRod......the main body whether its the Proform or Holley has nothing to do with the vacume ports on an HP type carb.......we get it all done in the base........most HP carbs can be converted into having some vacume ports with little work......to create a ported vacume port(only vacume when rpm increases) the old way its needed to go from the metering block threw the body and into the base.....a direct port(constant vacume) is done only in the base..the Proform body is a good piece also as is the Holley......Jesse
