Fresh valve job, New GM 2.19 1.88 high-po valves, decked .020, 115cc chambers, New Lunati Solid Roller Springs, locks, retainers, screw in studs, yadda yadda yadda.... no port work.

What do you guys think? Im thinkin of asking $1,000 ?
Thanks

Guess it depends on who wants them and how bad they want them.

I had a set of 990's that were ported, 2.30/1.90 severed duty valves, titanium retainers, K-Motion K1000H sprins, rocker studs, plates, etc.

I had them for sale on the new for a while and wound up selling them for $800 plus shipping, but had to give the buyer my old Crane solid roller cam as well to make the deal (used BBC roller cams usually worth approx $150-175 on average). I also had provided the buyer with flow sheets of all 16 ports which cost me $225 for the flow bench work.

I think $650-750 is likely more realistic given they aren't assembled with top of the line race parts or any signs of any porting.

I recently paid $800 for a set that were mildly ported and all new parts. I know this will probably spark another rect. are junk use oval fight but I love my 990's. Loads of power, but not so much down low that I can't hook it up.

I know this will probably spark another rect. are junk use oval fight and you can feel so special by starting it. How fast is your rectal port 468?

We all know guys like to beat each other up, but I know plenty of setups with rec ports that run real good, especially on the 454 based motors with stock rod lengths. The only detrimental experience I have known was below 2000 RPM and that was exaggerated more from the longer cam than the heads.

I can tell you first hand that there is no comparison [going back some time here] in comparing a SS/JA '67 Chevelle 396/325 based engine car against a comparable SS/HA (think that was the class) based on the same car but with a 396/375 based engine car. For all practical purposes the difference between the two in SS trim was .75/1 CR difference, rec port heads vs oval and a 780 Holley vs a 750 Qjet, everything else on the cars can be identical. Absolutely no comparison between the two combos.

They don't bring a lot of money. There are too many better designs out there. A friend tried to sell a set that was professionally ported with a spare set of new roller springs for $700.00 and it took him over a year to get a buyer.

It's the damn shipping that kills it. Example to Buffalo NY it's got to be $75 a piece. Damn. Those 990's would be a PERFECT backup set in case my old alums die again, 115-116cc is spot on, but the springs are too heavy. However, it's $850 with shipping even with a great price on the heads. :(

smile.gif Oh yeah, can't go too fast, wife's orders, so I need the slowpoke rectals on the 427. graemlins/waving.gif

You need to connect with a business that has a discounted UPS account. Iron heads (70# ea) in UPS ground coast to coast about $20.00 ea.

Shipping a BBC head costs me $38 from west to east coast, which is $12 cheaper than not having an account. How can you get that so cheap? FedEx is the only one that can touch that.
