Our washing machine gave up the ghost and we're shopping for a new replacement. My wife is leaning towards a front loading LG brand washer and a matching gas dryer.

We've been getting two different stories: One is that LG's rank high for reliability and have a good service record and the other side is just the opposite - they have service problems. Don't know if it's poor reliability or lack of service parts.

Anyone have any experience with their front loading washers?

I've found lots of helpful reviews off www.nextag.com. Maybe you can find the one you want here:

I like seeing reviews done by real people.

My buddy loves his 60+ inch plasma from LG.:D

He just remodeled his kitchen with LG appliances, he brags about them every time I go over there.:D

I think LG is Phillips.

I think my 32" LG LCD TV is OK.

I think LG, (Life's Good), used to be Zenith, but I'm not sure.

Our LG Thromm washer shakes the hole dang house when it spins. And Best Buy says tough, you should put in in the basement!!!!! I would give it to you if we had not spent so much money on it. It makes me so mad when it runs my wife does the laundry when I am not home.

Assuming you have a high speed front load, you may be able to fix this by adjusting the feet - if they aren't all supporting an even amount of the load it will vibrate like crazy!!

LG is a Korean company the is following the Hyundai business plan. Deliver above average quality for below average price and build a reputation. Are there some lemons? Probably. But by and large, I think they are probably a good value.

My "Insignia" plasma by Best Buy is just a repackaged LG. All the on screen menu's are exactly the same as LG. And so far, after 6 months, I'm happy with it.

Are you sure all the pacing was remove from underneath. Seen that happen and it causes a constant out of balance condition.:)

I have an LG double door refrigerator, freezer on bottom, ice and water in door. Top of line model, about same cost as GE. Not quite two years old. The in door ice maker is not a very good design. The ice comes out slowly. To fill a coffee cup takes about 30 seconds. Our friends GE practically throws the ice out and they say it works fine all the time. The LG quits working all together about every 2-3 days. Then you have to open the left door, take out the ice bin and shake it up to loosen the ice, then it will work again. Sometimes the ice is frozen together and requires being dumped out and letting it start all over.
The poor design ice flow is enough to keep me from buying this model again.

Last week the lights inside the frig did not turn off. By the time we discovered this(we figure about 2-3 hours), the lights had melted the clear plastic cover that surrounds them.

I took the bulbs out and read the manual. Nothing in there to help, except to tell me there was no warranty on it unless I lived in Canada. Go figure. I took the door switches apart and found one was sticking. Got it working and now it is allright, but I figure I will need to WD-40 those switches every year or so to keep them from sticking.

I would not buy LG again, based on this frig and the problems I've had with it.

When I bought it the salesman told us that LG was Samsung/Goldstar/some Korean company, trying to market a more deluxe line of appliances and not be known only for budget models.

LG is South Korean.

Generally, they make good stuff, from what I have seen first hand. I'm sure there may be issues, but everyone I know with LG products, cell phones to microwaves and washers, seem to be OK with them or like them even more than that.
I'm sure it isn't energy efficient, but the best fridge I've dealt with is a near 30yr-old Kenmore Hotpoint in this oh-so-nice "brown" color. LG makes some decent stuff. Given the new maytag wash/dry a relative got, you may want to shop LG some. I don't know if it is true, but I have heard of various very bad reports from owners of a few brands of front loading washers. Energy efficient, and low water use, maybe that is because they are not on. because they are broken. Others say they just do not work as well (front loaders).
As far as refrigerators go, I would hope, much like a kia, that these days companies can make lower cost, reliable appliances that keep on chugging, but are nothing 'special.'

I have a GE fridge, and the ice cube "shooter" has broken two glasses in under a year..
I'm not sure "cube ejection" is the best measure. I wouldn't hesitate with LG, aside from a dishwasher, where IMO bosch has it hands down..

good luck.

Bosch is made by LG  We were looking at them at our friends appliance store, he said they are repackaged LG's.

I have the LG washer and drier. It does shake the whole room on the spin cycle but the clothes come out really dry so the drier takes less time and electric to dry clothes. The drier is nice because it has a sensor that shuts it off when clothes are dry and has a wrinkle guard that tumbles the dry clothes every couple of minutes. The only thing I dont like is you have to keep the seal on the washer really clean or you get a odor from it. I leave it open a crack when I dont use it and that seems to help.

Guys, there arent like 1000 appliance factories around the world. Its called contract manufacturing and its done by many industries. SO the LG factories in Korea may make half a dozen different brand names.

The LG Tromm Steam Washer was rated by Consumer Reports recently as the #1 pick. It is however pretty expensive. Lower model LG's did not get as good a rating.

I have been looking at this information for a while and looking over the various manufacturers and models. We need new washer and dryer. I am leaning towards the Whirlpool Duets.

We have had Whirlpool Duet Washer and dryer for about 2 years with no problems. Recently hooked it up to an AquaPure unit so now no hot water or soap costs either. Ours are on a wood frame floor and do not have any vibration issues but I did add a 4x4 beam and posts below and made sure it was level (old house). Then made sure the w&d were level too.

I LOVE MINE!!!!!
Got them last May as my old w/d gave it up after 26 yrs.
I will NOT buy anything Sears ever again.
I got the Tromm, white with the optional stands, didnt do the Steam as I don't have many dry cleaneable clothes anyhoo...and the elec dryer.
I don't like gas cause it yellows clothes.
My clothes come out brand new looking, it only takes a TBSP of laundry detergent to do a load of sheets, and uses very little water! Since it "flops" the clothes instead of beating them to death. stuff looks better and lasts longer! AND I can wash a Queen size comforter with no problem!
has a 5 yr warranty, and also bought the 10 yr for about 75 bucks.
So this puppy will outlast me!!!!!

I bought mine at Best Buy and they got me set up in 2 days.
I really like it and hope your wife will too!
