shannont's tilt column install for XXX is by far the cleanest installation I've seen. Don't know if it's a Flaming River or Ididit (or?), but the fit up under the dash is exactly what I'm looking for.
I bought the FR polished stainless replacement tilt column (floor shift), aluminum "oem" underdahs column mount and multi-angle billet floor mount for my 67. I also got the ss universals and the d-slipshaft for connection to a new AGR p/s unit. Problem is with everything together, there is a huge space between the column and dash inset, whereas the original column damn near hit the dash when installed.
Does anyone have any experience with installation of these such that I can reduce the column to dash clearance? Only thing I can see is to machine down the FR mount, or cut up the dash. I guess I could weld, drill, and tap mounting tabs onto the column and use the stock retaining plate, but that kinda makes for nice+ugly - plus welding tabs to such thin stainless doesn't sound easy or practical.
C'mon guys, help me out here. Last thing I wanna do is go back to stock. This baby's almost ready to roll but if I can't get behind the wheel into the seat....well, anyway, thanks for any ideas that come up or experience already logged.
Best,
