Greetings fellow gearheads,

I've just received my new YearOne upholstery kit for my 69 Chevelle Malibu Sport Coupe. I'm having the rear seat recovered first, herein lies my question.
The seat cushion comes out readily and I've located and unbolted the two lower bolts holding the seat back in place but I can't get the seat back to move much. At this point do I work the seat back upwards to free "tangs" that may be holding it in place or what? I really don't want to pull on it for fear of bending the frame. Thanks

Yes. Pull the seat out at the bottom to just loosen those tangs and the seat attachment points- they've been on there a while I'd bet. Try to pull it up flat up against the metal and it should break free. It's a PITA but it'll come out. Worst case scenario: Use a couple blocks of wood like a pivot seesaw and pry it up.

Thanks Dave. I kind of expected your suggestion to be the case but its better to hear it from someone who has actually removed a seat back. Have a great summer.
