With final choice.

Which of these 2 cams would you use in this motor?

The 2 cams I'm looking at are Lunati's
402A2 or 402A3

454 +30
781 heads ..2.19 n 1.88 valves (just cleaned up in the runners)
TRW L2465F30
116cc chambers
MSD6AL--Blaster coil n HEI dist
350turbo Stall?
3:31 posi rearend-- 28"tall tire
RPM air gap intake

This is mainly a street car with a few trips to the track for TnT nights/days. and a little fun

Also which is the easiest way to order one. Through Summit (or others) or Lunati themselves.

Thanks graemlins/beers.gif

Shaun,

With a 10" converter and a 3.31 rear gear, probably the 402A2 would be the better choice. With a 3000 stall and 3.73's, everyone likes the 402A3. Both are very streetable, and give years of decent performance. The 402A2 goes for one year between valve adjustments.
Summit is about the cheapest around, although any Lunati/Holley dealer can order them.

Thanks UDHarold.
Checked with Summit and they have to special order it. Do you know if you guys have them in stock?

Shaun, I'm running the exact same engine combo that your asking about with the 402A2 camshaft. I love it and it makes great power. I also have a TH350 with a tight 10" BTE converter. In my 65 this combo went 114 mph with a 3.08 gear and 26" tall tires!
The only thing that I can complain about is that it doesn't pull alot of vacuum at idel (about 7" in gear), so when I sit in traffic for a long time the brake pedal gets a little hard feeling.

Good Luck

Thanks Jeff.
Nice to here from someone that has run this cam.
What does the converter stall at ,and how is it on the highway?

Shaun, I can't really tell what the converter stalls at because the brakes won't hold past 2200 or so. I bought it from Steve Oldani who posts on the transmission forum alot, his best guess was about 3000. He had it built with a different fin angle so it wouldn't be too loose to drive with a tall gear and its worked really well. Plus if I want to get serious it can easily be rework to provide more stall.
I do have a good size trans cooler also.

I am putting together a 454 that's exactly the same pistons, A2 cam, intake, tranny, etc

Except my heads are 049's with 2.19/1.88" S/S valves and the bowls have been mildly ported, intake ports gasket matched, and the exhaust ports have been polished. I also have 3.69 gears and 3000+ stall converter.

Anyway, have you got your motor running? If so, how is it?

Thanks!!

What does the converter flash to once you let off and are able to hook up? This would be your true stall of the converter.
