: NHRA TV getting bumped
Jblack Apr 14th, 08, 7:44 AM What is it with ESPN?? I'm tired of anything to do with drag racing getting the shaft when it comes to air time. I mean anything from professional basket weaving to turtle racing seems to get the nod before they air a NHRA event. Last night it was some Moto X racing that ran over. I'm sure the three people that were in the stands for that were excited that it was on TV! Bad enough it got bumped to 8:00pm, then it starts 20 minutes late.
Okay, I'm done whining :D
ss1970chev454 Apr 14th, 08, 8:10 AM It's all about the $
I sure do enjoy the cleerleader playoffs though :D
mmurphy77 Apr 14th, 08, 9:11 AM I always DVR NHRA and watch Monday morning. I got burned too many times by Basketball, Tennis, etc. going over. Now I just record an additional hour to cover it. But I agree with you.
animal69 Apr 14th, 08, 10:04 AM It was to start at 8 PM. It was only a few minutes late. Patience, Patience, Patience!
Alan Apr 14th, 08, 11:36 AM NHRA may have started late, but it went over by 20 minutes and didn't end until 8:20pm. It was tape delay anyway. Seems rare we ever get to watch LIVE NHRA, Supercross, Motorcross. BUT, we get to watch BORING LIVE Golf, Baseball LIVE rain delays, Nascar LIVE rain delays. All about the $$$$. Oh well, I guess if you want to see it Live, you have to be there in person.
Jblack Apr 14th, 08, 12:00 PM I will be watching live in Norwalk this year!

Drag racing does not lend itself to live broadcasts. There are 75 minutes between rounds and delays for oil downs etc. They do broadcast some of the Nationals live and it never runs real smooth. They start eliminations at 11AM (local time) and the finals are usually after 6PM. How many people are going to sit there that long?
musclecarjohn Apr 14th, 08, 4:37 PM Just saying the same thing to my wife last night...face it,NHRA is a 2nd class sport to ESPN...and I'm just getting plain sick & tired of it.
No "live" friday night qualifying,no "live" telecasts, everything tape-delayed,and pre-empted by every frickin possible show & event imaginable.
Maybe it doesn't lend itself to TV but that's still no excuse...in this day & age.
That's the way it's always been and probably always will...and it sucks the big one.
jsmart Apr 14th, 08, 4:44 PM the spelling bee is my favorite on ESPN...

 I do the same

I WILL! :) I did it at the track and I can do it at home. Plus, beer is cheaper and easier to get to at home.
mmurphy77 Apr 14th, 08, 5:44 PM I will be watching live in Norwalk this year!
I'll be watching live at Englishtown and Charlotte (if they're done on time!).
LeoP Apr 14th, 08, 9:19 PM Not to mention a dozen commercials between the rounds.
novaderrik Apr 15th, 08, 4:50 AM they used to show a lot of NHRA events live on tv.. it worked well- right up until John Force lit his car on fire going thru the traps (which was a twice a week deal in the early 90's) or some Top Fuel dragster backfired thru the blower..
then, it was up to an hour of filler until they got it cleaned up.
but the Pro Stock cars and bikes never caused any sort of delays..

Now they only show short clips of the bike runs, instead of showing the burnouts and treating them as they do the other NHRA pro classes.:(

The least that they (ESPN) could do is broadcast the final round Live.
DOUG G Apr 15th, 08, 6:24 PM My biggest gripe is when they show 8 rounds or so and then show the rest HOURS later at like 2am.
Personally I'd like to see some sportsman/bracket racing too :D
sg5492 Apr 15th, 08, 10:30 PM Sportsman/bracket racing on TV, That would be tooo cool

But Speed Channel will broadcast 39 hours of Barrett-Jackson live

Yup, if you like NHRA drag racing and NHRA Pro Stock bikes, you get shafted TWICE
Mike Apr 16th, 08, 11:10 AM Just curious but how many of you have sent ESPN your gripes ??
And as an FYI ,NHRA's been trying to wrap up Sunday's by 4:00 local time so they have time to edit the tape ,so that puts it a little early to broadcast live in prime time.
SixActual Apr 16th, 08, 11:57 AM I'll be watching live at Englishtown and Charlotte (if they're done on time!).
I'll be at E-Town this year as I have been for the last 38 years (counting 1971), beginning with the 2nd Annual Summernationals, in 1971. The 1st was held in York, PA where I attended that as well.
Respectfully, :)
