Just picked up a 454 this weekend! Got a pretty good deal on it. 50 miles since its rebuild. Bored .30 over, 781 heads, 9.5 to 1. cant wait to get it in. But i got a question... I got the info from the owner thats the cam was a Crower hyd FT #01243. 284*/ .541in Intake and 290*/ .517 Exhaust. I searched everywhere and i couldnt find anymore details or confirm the specs on this cam. In summit, as well as jegs, Its just listed a "compu- pro Hyd. cam" no specs. Could it be a custom grind then? What do you think about this cam then. Does it look alright for a weekend hot street/ strip app? Thanks in advance. Im more of a body guy and dont know much about cams yet. But hey thats how ya learn, Right?

Did you try searching the Crower site?

http://www.crower.com/misc/cam_spec/cam_finder.php?part_num=01243&x=22&y=9

For a weekend cruiser cam, that one should be fine. Congrats on getting the big block.

It seems Crower likes to make the valve lift quite a bit lower on the exhaust lobe. Can someone explain why they do that, for those of us who don't know?

I had a Crower BBC solid that .517 intake/.530 exhaust

I have no idea why you want more lift on the intake side with a BBC
My current Ultradyne cam is .525 intake/.550 exhaust

Since the stock BBC exhaust port doesn't flow the greatest stock, you'd figure you need all the lift you can get to help it breathe

Ahh Thanks for the link boss. I did look at the site but i think i was just looking in their catalog. Yea i was kinda wondering about the exhaust lift myself too, there is a little more duration tho.

That's what I figured too. There must be some reason for it I guess, but seems like they're the only company that does it.

Damn the gas prices...you've made the right decision.

As for the cam...drive it. Then decide....If those are advertised figures then you should be okay.
