Hi all,
Can anyone please help me with adjusting the side windows on a 65 Chevelle hardtop? I searched the forums and all I find is that its in the manual. I ordered one but it's gonna take a week to get here and I need to adjust it now. I replaced the felts and rollers and now to roll it down takes all the strength I can muster. It was working fine before so I'm sure its an adjustment but no matter how I move stuff I can't get it to work like before. I'll pay someone to scan the shop pages or list a step by step on how to adjust them. I use this car as my daily driver so that's why I need to get it going before I go into work tonight. Any help you guys can give would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Alex, did you gease all the rollers and slides? They need to be greased well. Also did you compare the new parts to the old to make sure they were correct? Many parts are sold these days as replacements that don't fit or work. Why did you replace the rollers if they were working fine? Gary

I did grease everything and the rollers did match the originals. I replaced the felts due to the fact that they were almost non existent and rattled a lot. The rollers I did just cause I was in there already. If I loosen the bolts on the rear window track and the one track in the middle of the door it gets a little easier so that's why I figured it's all in the adjustments. Thanks.

The best way is to watch/mark where the adjustments were from the factory before starting because that is the correct position for them or darn close. The first thing I would do is to return them to the factory settings if you can see them. If you look at your vertical window tracks you will see that they have a screw and a lock nut securing them. You crack the nut loose and turn the screw to adjust the tracks and then lock the nut back down. You probably didn't realize that you were changing the adjustments of the tracks when you were messing with those nuts and thats where I think you will find your solution.

I assume you are asking about the door window and not the quarter window? You probably had to remove the cam (roller channel) in the middle of the inner panel. That part can cause binding if not set correctly. The other part that can cause binding is the guide plate at the rear of the window. Roll the window to a point where it binds, then loosen those two parts (one at a time) to see which one is causing the binding.
