Ive been trying to find some info on the diffrences between torque converters. Whats the diffrence between say a tci street fighter 3000 rpm stall and a coan 3000 rpm stall besides the $300 in price. Are you just buying the name? Or is there a real performance diffrence between the 2 converters of similar stall speed.

I guess you would have to find someone that owned both.

I've got a Coan and I love it. I'd buy another in a second.

There can be some differences in converters. I will say this, that if you do a side-by-side comparison of their race converters, that with what I call the same internal components, the Coan is priced a lot higher than many other brands. If you post some detailed info on your entire combo I could give you my .02 on what combo to use for a converter. Or, if you would rather email me, that is fine as well. The converter is one place where it is nice to make the right choice the first time and spend money only once!

I owned the 10" TCI street fighter. Behind my 383, at the track with slicks, it flashed to 4000. It was part # 241000 rated 3000-3500. $350. Best ET 12.10 @110.6 1.66 60ft with 4.10 gears, perfect traction. Several trips to track. It felt a little mushy, I thought.

I changed to an 11" Coan pro street converter. Same senerio flashes to about 3000. Rated at 2600. $290. Best ET 12.07 @ 111.9 1.71 60ft. Less than perfect traction. Several trips to track. No other changes to car. Now with 3.42's- 12.10 @ 111.9 1.71 60ft.

Obviously the Coan is more efficient. This is not the comparison you wanted exactly, but maybe it will help your decision. $650 for a 10" seems a little steep.

I just bought an ATI 8" treemaster on sale for $649 but the sale is over.

My buddy has a race TCI 8" 5200 stall w/transbrake and it is efficient. It needed a rebuild after 1.5 years, no street. 2700lb car 10.30's. 1.40 60ft.

Thanks for the replys guys. Im not really lookin for a recomendation as far as stall speed goes. Im Lookin for some info on understandin what makes 1 better then the other. With heads its pretty simple cause the manufacturers give you valve sizes flow numbers chamber shape etc. With converters you get a stall speed rateing and a diamter but not much else.
