My friend has a 138 68 SS Chevelle. There is a piece of paper behind the rear seat about 4 inches wide and 20 in. long, you can see it from the trunk. This sheet has hand written options and color codes on it. It has circled options like m22 etc. The car had sat since 1980 and whatever this sheet is seems to be original. Is this an option sheet? Or something else.

That's a great find, paperwork is relatively rare in '68's.
It's probably the broadcast sheet, it will have some RPO's of the car listed, but not all of them like a build sheet. It is a valuable piece of documentation for the car, try to save it.
If you can, please post a picture of it here or PM me for my email & you can send a pic to me & I'll post it for you.

I always thought that the term "build sheet" was street talk for the document that is correctly named "broadcast sheet". (Not to be confused with the smaller document that lists some interior items.) Someone educate me -
what's the difference between a build sheet and a broadcast sheet?

Trim broadcast sheet-this has some other options listed besides the trim. I call it a "broadcast sheet" 'cause that's what it says at the top.

I talked to my friend today and he said I could take a few pics of the sheet. I'll try to do it tomorrow.

m22 huh? was this supposed to be, or maybe still is, a factory 375 horsepower car? m22's are very rare and with my limited knowledge would have to guess it would be a special order or a factory L78 car.
but if it doesn't have the original engine/trans now, it's just a interesting little fact.

Do any of you guys know what the codes mean? The car was blue with a 4 speed m20. There was a 22 circled next to the m20 but I don't think it meant that it had a m22.

M20 makes more sense.

That looks like a note that someone wrote that has 3 different cars on it. The top is 13327, a 6-cyl 300 Deluxe post car with 191 A(?) upholstery, a trim number I'm not familiar with. The second is a 13680 El Camino Custom with a 765-A black bench interior and M20, the third is 13837 SS 396 with 757 B teal bucket seat interior with a M20.
There are numbers 52, 53, 54 on the right side of the piece of paper, maybe these show the order that the cars would be coming down the line on that day.
Found another pic of a different broadcast sheet.

Thats pretty good detective work. I'll tell him tonight. He'll get a kick out of that.

191 A(?)I was thining maybe 791-A, Medium Green Rapture Cloth, Imitation Leather, a Malibu interior code, but it's the only one with x91. Is it a KC car? They're the only plant using -A and/or -B in 1968. I agree with Bill, it's probably just somebody's notes on what was coming and their job was to install the front/rear seats.
