Well my motor is at the builders cause I thought I melted a piston. But I was going to pull it out anyway to do a cam change. No meltdown!!!! Wheeewwww, but i had one bad ring causing the smoke. Anyway, my builder has a NEW still in box cam that he said he would give me for free. Its a Comp Cam Solid 12-512-5 is the part number. here are the specs

Solid-350-400 C.I., 12:1CR ,4000-5000 stall 280/288 advertised duration
250/259 at duration at .050
.530/.550 lift with 1.5s
106 LSA

My destroked combo is
400 SB .060 over
3.48 stroke....comes out to 383 cubic inches
13.1 pistons
4000 stall
4.56 gears
850 double pumper
Weiand Team G intake
Aftermarket GM Heads 2.02s ported and gasket matched to intake.
Th-350
3050 lb Nova

Am i forgetting anything?!?!?!?

How do you guys think it will work?? i wanted to get a Lunati from UD, but i couldnt say no becuase it was free. How will the Idle be? Lumpy? radical? smooth? I really have no idea but i know the old cam that was suppose to be 550 lift, and it was 480  Oh well.
I also have a 200 shot, will this cam work well?
The builder Pulled the motor apart, went over everything...re-honed the block, New cam, new rings, and new bearings. Hes putting it all backtogether and breaking it in on his stand in the shop for 500 bucks. does that sound good?
Thanks Guys!!

should work alright nasty racey idle prolly no lower then 1100 possibly more..make nice sized hp up high..not much tq down low...500 doesnt sound bad for the teardown replacement labor and breakin.then factor how much he saved ya with the cam...your probably only paying $400...not bad to me but hey what the hell do I know

Are you saying that its going to be one of those cams that doesn't clear up until 2000 rpms??

Its gonna be rough.....

Install on a 102, with a 106, and that much duration it will sound plan nasty. Should clean up up 1600 or so I would think but, then again it might not even idle at 1600RPM. Either way it will work well, I think you are set up well for it. Just run the thing, if you dont like get the cam you want. I mean a cam change is only a weekend under the hood in most cases. Make sure your springs can handle that beast......

The LSA is a bit tight for the Juice...it'll match up pretty well on the motor, but on the gas, its less than ideal....

Ohhh so for Nitros you want a wider LSA? more like a 108, or 110?

If youre gonna be squirting a 200 shot regularly, i would want at least a 110. Most serious nitrous cams you see are on a 112-114(some even higher), much like a blower cam, and have a little more lift and dur. on the exhaust to help empty the cylinder.

run a very similer elgin cam in 406 and it runs very well it ran 7.0s in the 1/8th mile change to a comp roller with 630 lift and 260 duration and made no improvements at all in time slips.it will have to ideal at about 1100rpms.dont know how it will work with the funny gas as i have no use for it.im pretty sure the power ban on it will be 3000 to 7000 ialways shifted mine at6200 to save the motor you will need no less than 373 gears.irun 488s in the chevelle and 456s in my nova and the times were very similer if you are running a glide it will love the 106 center line
