: Found hidden treasure in carb!!!........also, motor not revving past 5500rpms

Well, I've had this bog/hesitation for pretty much as long as I can remember. Originally, the bog, or so I'm believing, was due to using a stock 307ci fuel pump, hence it not supplying the proper amount of fuel. Now, I have a 130gph Holley fuel pump, haven't hooked up the regulator yet, and now (I'm believing), the bog is due to too much fuel being delivered. I was told by someone from here, sorry I forgot your name, to check the bronze "filters" in the carb. I took them out a little while ago....and BOY WAS THERE JUNK IN THERE!!! lol I have no idea what it was, but it was "needle/bearing" shaped, and a whole lot of them. In the front bowl, along with those needle looking things, was some black gunk, almost looked like grease? The rear wasn't too bad. I wasn't able to go buy new ones, don't know if it matter? So I just cleaned them up as best I could and reinstalled them. Being that its getting late, I wasn't able to take the car around the block for a quick spin, or else my parking would get taken. So what I did was go back and forth where I was parked and floored it several times...but not hard enough to break the tires loose....don't wanna really **** of the neighbors :D
Well, I'm happy now that my bog seems to have gone away for the mean time....but...now heres my new problem. I have been messing with the wires to my tach because my rev limiter seems to be kicking in at roughly 5600-5800rpms, when I have a 6000 pill in my MSD 6AL box. Well, I was revving it up and now it seems as if the motor doesn't want to rev past 5500rpms. I had the pedal all the way down to the floor and looked like it stayed at 5500-5600rpms. I have no idea why. While I kept it at that rpm for the brief moment, I don't recall hearing the rev limiter kick in. The last time I revved it up, I did hear a "pop", but wasn't sure if it was the MSD box or a back fire. Well, I'm puzzled at what's taking place now. All info/input is needed and welcome. Before doing anything else I would change the chip in the 6AL box.
I have found some off by quite a bit on the dyno ;)
I just had a SB on there that had a mysterious miss from about 8600 & went flat. Pulled the chip & it went right to 9000.
The chip was a 9400 graemlins/sad.gif

I gotta check that out! Only thing, I'd be afraid to "test" the motor's rev capabilities without a chip....just to see if it revs past 5500......I know it wouldn't be smart, but I'm just really curious.

Don't do it in neutral, do it under load in first gear.

The junk is Cal. gas and the old style rubber fuel hose. Do not leave the filters out until you change the fuel hose to a type that will take the junk in the new gas. All of the hose you get now will take the stuff.

Well, I kinda updated the fuel lines about a week ago or so...I did put some braided line on it about 2=3 years ago tops...then last week I installed a fuel filter and added some new rubber line....I'm planning on changing everything again, and moving up to 3/8" hard line.
