Remember when you were a kid in the mid 60s first new car was out on the floor in Sept of the proceeding year which would be almost 4 months
When do they shut the line down and stop making 65s?? Is it possible to get a early 66 with the title reading a 1965 chevelle since it came out in that year and was released to the buying public???? Just curious

Just curiousEarliest body dated trim tag I have is dated third week of August, 1965 but I don't think they went on sale to general public until sometime in early to mid September. Last 65 tag I have is also third week of August, 1965 but a different plant. Plants may have done changeovers at different times in July/August just so there would not be a week or two of corporate-wide downtime during changeovers.

Titles were not generated until after a car was purchased - no 66 model year Chevelle should have a 65 model year on the title. 66's were produced in the 65 calendar year but were still 66 model year cars.

the coveted 64 1/2 mustangs are all titled 1965s. differences between them are cosmetic. first digit of the VIN is a 5 on all.

I should revise...if someone at the DMV made a typo, it could read 1965 Chevelle or some variation, but the VIN listed would be for a 66.

The title is based off the "model year", not the actual year of manufacture...

In 68, the Vette was produced until the 2nd week of AUG. 69s started 1st week of SEP after a 2-week change-over for the new model year. This would be typical with slight variation between facilities. The 68 Vettes had a long run so Dale's dates 3rd week of AUG make sense for 66 Chevelle.

Cars titled to their model year.

Mustang badges--door lock knobs--260v-8----were different for 64-1/2
Instument cluster wording-------due to the alternator coming out in the 65 model year

64-1/2 will have "GEN"
65 will have "ALT"
