I've got a bare firewall, outer and inner. I've got my heater ducts, heater box, insulation, etc all cleaned up and ready to go in...but I don't know what to do first. Can you guys step me through this?
There's firewall insulation and under dash insulation. Do I put those on first then put the defrost duct thing in, then clamp the halves of the heater box across the firewall? Is there more???
Been so long since I took it apart, I just can't remember :)
Also, those rubber nipple plug things that hold the insulation on, how many am I supposed to have? I found four, seems like I should have at least a couple more.
Thanks in advance,
TJ

As far as assembly goes, this is how I tackle that area...
1. Insulation and underdash pad and kick panel insulation
2. Heater Box, pedal assembly, parking brake, heater ducts and vent ducts.
3. Assemble the whole dash out side the car on a workbench, then install it as one unit, makes the wiring a snap.
4. Kick panels and carpet scuff plates
5. Steering column and cover plate.
6. Attach wiring to firewall as well as all ground wires to body.

Hey Tom, where exactly is that under dash insulation supposed to go? The firewall pad is pretty clear, but the "under dash" kit is just a couple 4" x 24" rectangular strips. Do you have a picture showing exactly how they are supposed to be placed?
I tried your AIM, doesn't seem to work for me.. Try me at "Johnson UofI".
Thanks,

I think that's the stuff that gets glued to the underside of the top surface of the dash. I didn't install mine because the ones I received in my kit were fiberglass and would have rained dust and glass fibers down onto everything, including the legs of any driver or passenger in shorts. It also would have rained fiberglass into the eyes of anyone (me) who may have to lay on the floor and work under the dash. I didn't feel it added any real value and had the potential for many negatives so I left it out of my 67 resto.

I was looking back at some old pictures and noticed there was a lot more factory insulation under there by the column support rods and under the defrost ducts. My firewall pad covers a lot, but on up toward the underside of the dashtop itself, there was a layer of knap. See pictures below.. Does anyone make this pad/kit or should I just get some stuff and replicate this myself?
