: Anyone know where I can buy aircraft ground handling equipment?
Augustboy2009 Apr 10th, 08, 8:54 PM Hey all,
I'm in need of purchasing a wide body staircase truck for large commercial aircraft. Stairs that will reach a B-757, B767, B747, MD-11, DC-10 aircraft.
I also need to purchase a Lavatory service cart and potable water cart.
Do you guys have any clue on where I can purchase this stuff?
I would prefer used if possible.
Any help would be great.

With all the reservations cancelled and flight delays this week you are fed up and starting your own airline!! :) :)
Am I close?
Sorry I couldn't actually answer the question...but I couldn't resist.
Perhaps contact United Operations in Chicago? They might have an equipment broker they deal with nationwide when a handling item is redundant or past it's prime.

Augustboy2009 Apr 10th, 08, 9:41 PM Your close! haha. I did in fact work as a contractor for ATA airlines. I had some great times working with ATA. Its sad to see the company close its doors. Fortunately I still work for two other airlines which keeps food on the table.
I'm starting a ground handling company and need equipment. I have most of it but need a 1 Staircase truck that will reach the wide body aircraft.
good idea about contacting an airline and finding out if and where their might be a depot for used equipment past its prime. I can fix practically anything so reconditioning used equipment won't be a problem.

69velle Apr 11th, 08, 1:28 AM I know there is a airplane boneyard in mohave, i think its by Edwards Air Force Base. They might have used ground crew stuff, I really dont know. But if they dont have anything, they might know who would.
novaderrik Apr 11th, 08, 4:44 AM for the stair thing, just buy a pickup and an extendable ladder...
if you market it right, rich people will love having such a "rustic" method of getting on and off the plane.
daveseitz Apr 11th, 08, 4:57 AM Google aircraft for sale, and look for sites with ground equipment.

Nolowrider Apr 12th, 08, 4:41 AM Google DRMO and DRMS. It is gov equipment that gets auctioned off. Usally surplus equipment or obsolete equipment. I would post some links, but I can't on my iPhone. Find a military base close to you and ask them where they send their equipment. Hope this helps.
gr8apmech Apr 12th, 08, 6:26 AM Starman Bro. Auctions http://www.starmanauctions.com/ occasionally has that stuff. I'm at Boeing, San Antonio and we're buying all we can! Govt wants out of the equipment business and is getting their contractors to purchase/provide them for most new contracts. You should get a great deal at the website Chevello suggested...that's were we have to send ours...even if we want to purchase it!!!
Good luck!
BillsCamino Apr 12th, 08, 8:50 AM With 4 airlines going belly up so far this month, this shouldn't be difficult...

Yeah I know of 1 company that went belly up who is having an auction of all their equipment. I'm going to try and jump all over that!
You guys have been great with the websites. I've made a few calls to some local companies in SoCaL.
I'll be checking out the government DRMO auctions.
I need a wide body stair case truck. I pretty much have all of the other equipment lined up through the airlines that I'm going to be doing business with. Airstart unit, baggage conveyor, maintenance stand etc.

Daren71 Apr 12th, 08, 11:15 AM Bob, good luck with your business venture, you know what they say about aviation, "If you want to make a small fortune in aviation, start with a large fortune." Good luck. Daren

Thanks Daren,
Things have been moving relatively slowly but we've made some great progress the past week.
We were not getting support from the Airport Director. He would half way tell us the truth, told us no space was available. We got the run around with him for a month. We finally went to his boss, the City Manager. Low and behold he is cooperating with us now. :hurray:
I can't say to much about it but things are moving along great now.
