Need to order new driveshaft for my 550hp+ BBC 66 with Tremec 600 assumed only way to go with high torque heavy car was a steel shaft ......normally I don't pay too much attention to TV hop up shows but saw Horsepower TV where Ace's 1 installed a 4" alum shaft in the 502 Biscayne for bracket racing ???

Pro's and con's opinions ! .....Denny's tells me steel for sure
Thanks Bill

Last time I disregarded Denny's advice, i.e., switching the ypoke to a 1350 size, it cost me. Now I have to remove my yoke, which has been 'enlarged', and swap it out.

Aint even hit the 11s yet!

Point: Denny isn't in it for the money. IMHO his advice is pure objective advice from a pro. Follow it.

Exactly Gene! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
When I was in the market for a driveshaft for the '70, I considered/inquired about an aluminum one.
I was told by a couple of different sources that if I was to run aluminum, the yokes would need to be changed out ANNUALLY. Seems it's the general consensus that the UJ bores stretch out.

4 years and counting on the same 3.5" aluminum driveshaft built locally by Atlanta Driveline Service graemlins/thumbsup.gif A couple of those years were spent behind a 4 speed that regularly was the victim of clutch dumps on full slicks  Come to think of it I've never even repacked the u-joints (no zirk fittings). I'm sure it will break at the track tomorrow since I posted this.
