i just recently changed my intake manifold and re- hooked everything back up, and now when i try to turn it over the carb backfires. whats the problem? thanks...

Sounds like the timing is off.

Sounds like you have the distributor is out 180'.

Timing off. either 180 out or just way to retarded.

Pull #1 plug and turn it over with you finger over the hole until it blows air. Then you're on fire stroke #1. Turn it to about 20 degrees on the timing tab and pull the cap off and see where the roto points to. If it's close, readjust it to point right at the #1 on the cap and put it back on. Fire her up. You may have to advacne it a little more because if it's set on 14 on the tap, when the engine is not running, it will be about zero when it is running. So for initial fire up I set it static well into the 20's and it usually fires up great. Then hit it with a timing light to get it right on.
