I just weighed my 69 Chevelle 4 door hardtop at our local feed mill in town.
The lady that weighed it gave me a paper slip that says it weighed 3400 pounds even.It has the factory 307 & glide in it.I also had 3/4 tank of gas.Does that sound like the right weight for a 4 door hardtop?I'm getting ready to put a cast iron headed 454 & turbo 400 in it,with a 12 bolt. How much weight will that add to it?
Thanks,Mark

THat sounds about right, but I am not certain. I'd guess +200 maybe 250lbs? assuming all stock engine.
The shipping weight is 3340 for a base '69 Malibu 4 dr hdtp V8. Add some weight for the PG and any other options plus some for 3/4 tank of gas and I'd guess it to be easily over 3400, closer to 3500.

3500. We just had this duscisson yesterday at the Club luncheon. One of our guys races a 69 4 door and weighed his to check balance. It was 3500.

I forgot to add; probably less than 3400 if it has a lot of repro sheetmetal and bumpers on it (thin).;) Wouldn't racers in the 60's and 70's have had it made with today's repro sheetmetal. No acid dipping necessary, just replace orig with repro.

Thank you for all the replies guys.I bought this car almost 3 years ago off EBAY to put my 454 in it,just now getting around to it.I rebuilt the 454/468 over the winter.Bought a new posi unit & moser axels for the 12 bolt. The only big thing left is to either rebuild the 400 I have or buy one that already has a manual valve body & trans brake. This will be a street car,but it should run low 11's high 10's on motor & it will have nitrous on it too.I got a great deal on used headers & exhaust for it.A local guy here races a 68 SS Chevelle, and I bought his old Hooker 2 1/8" headers & 3.5" pipes with 3.5" FlowMasters that go back to the rear with turn downs, all for $100!That was the best deal I've had so far building this car.I have enough stuff here to put a glide with a manual valve body & a ATI 5000 glide convertor & SCS shifter, but everybody keeps telling me to put a 400 in it.So I'll have to spend some more money for a convertor & freshening up my 400.I have one guy here that races a 68 Camaro that has his 400 with manual valve w/brake & a 5000-5500 convertor for $1200 and it all works ,he went to a glide. If I can get it all for $1000 I may go that route.
Right now, like everybody else,my CA$H is the hold up.I'll post pics of my progress. Here's a few pics of my 69 4 door & the fresh 468.Also here's one of Daves 68 SS at Cecil yanking the front wheels out past the 60 ft box.his car runs 9.20's on motor with a pump gas 540,very nice car!
See ya,Mark

Hey VON,it has all the original sheet metal on it.The only thing I'll change is I do have a hinge style fiberglass hood & scoop to put on it once the 454 is in it.I ran that 454 in a 66 ChevyII for about 18 years, and it ran 11.20-30's best on motor (a 10.30 on nitrous),but of course it weighed 3600 lbs with me in it,a tank of gas,and 2 tool boxes and other various junk in it...LOL!I'm hoping the Chevelle runs as good or better, even though it'll push 3800 lbs with me in it.I went from a 643/633 Lunati solid flat tappet cam,to a CompCams 714 lift solid roller, and had some work done to my closed chambered square ports.I had the intake ports gasket matched, ported in the bowl areas & cleaned up the exhaust ports, and milled about 60 thousands off them to get the compression up closer to a true 11to1.So I'm hoping to have gained about 100 HP over the old combo. It should run really good on nitrous!
