: Dont need to be able to read to work for UPS
kivaka Apr 9th, 08, 1:18 PM OK im super super super mad. i stoped into work today so i can get my Wires for the chevelle so i can try to re wire the car tonight. Well the part that makes me mad is that the UPS driver cant read. My package says the city to be shipped to is AURORA and well it was deliverd to GENEVA. IM not a great speller or very good at reading but i at least know Geneva is not Aurora. man this just makes me so pissed:mad:
136679ss Apr 9th, 08, 1:28 PM Take a deep breath. First you'd be surprised the percentage of the population in this country which is completely illiterate. Second, I don't exactly know your particular circumstances, but the driving distance from Aurora to Geneva is about 15 minutes. If the parts are that important they need to be delivered to you today, then drive the 15 minutes and go get them. I agree they need to be delivered where they were originally intended to go, but 15 minutes just isn't that big of a deal my friend. Good luck. JN
BillsCamino Apr 9th, 08, 1:36 PM I think their delivery system is all based on Zip codes.
Your package probably has the wrong zip...
JC70SS Apr 9th, 08, 1:37 PM I personally boycott UPS! I have had major issues shipping drums with them in the past month and they flat out lied to me when one was supposedly lost in a fire. It turned up 2 weeks later on ebay!
64elkynss Apr 9th, 08, 2:16 PM Wild Bill is correct in that they base their system on zip codes. Now they are implementing a new system called PAL (not sure what it stands for), but basically what it does is put an extra label on each pkg. that helps the sorters get the pkg. into the right pkg. car for deliveries. Unfortunately their new system has MANY bugs to fix before it ever becomes perfect.
David, if feel your pain. I had a nos wheelwell molding shipped one time and because the driver's helper went to the wrong unit (the resident there said I don't live there), so they took my pkg. back to the hub and sent it back to the shipper that same night. After getting things straightened out that evening, I had my molding sent back the next day via 2 day air on ups' dime. They can and do screw up royally a lot, but with the volume of pkgs. they handle each day, their track record is pretty good with my shipments.
As far as things go for Joe, since they have so many layers of co. employees and restrictions, most of the time the people that you're talking to don't have a clue about what the real story is with your shipment. Normally, you're dealing with phone center people at the 1-800 # and they are clueless about what really happened to your pkg.
UPS has what's called a damage and re-wrap area in each hub for pkgs. that get damaged. If the damage is too great in their estimation they will just refund charges and insurance coverage, although they tell us they try to contact the customer to see if they want what's left. Say you ship a box of plug wires and 6 get damaged and 2 are ok, they will just give a refund for all 8 and send the 2 good ones to an overgoods center and then they go to a shop (like a Goodwill store) where they sell all the leftover items that weren't damaged (that UPS thinks are not useful to the customer any more) and try to recoup a few bucks for their screw-ups. People rifle through their stuff daily and many resell on eBay from what I've been told.
Yes, I do work for UPS and I'm not trying to defend them, because they do screw up A LOT, but just trying to help you better understand their inner workings. Sorry for the long-windedness. Keep up the pressure on them when they do screw up as it helps all customers in the long run! Hope this helps a little. 64elkynss
kivaka Apr 9th, 08, 2:36 PM thanks everyone for your imput. I own a company i cant just leave and drive 15min. that would cost me about $300 or more just to leave work today so i cant leave at all. I have a few friends that work at the Hubs and i know they have tons of work but its just sucks.
jeffc Apr 9th, 08, 3:03 PM Oh no! Not super, super, super mad! :D
Sorry you missed your package, but on a side note, what should I be doing that pays $1200/hr. I will work really, really, really, hard for that!

davoaz Apr 10th, 08, 12:34 AM I just left a package for parts I'm RMA'ing outside for UPS. It has their name on it UPS written with a big fat sharpie marker. Hope they can read that.
Cameano Apr 10th, 08, 12:38 AM I can rely on UPS like clockwork around here. They finally figured out they'd save a bunch of gas by attempting deliveries to residential areas after 5pm, so the guy usually shows up between 6-6:15pm if I'm expecting something. Don't get me started on the price I pay for that kinda service, though.
kivaka Apr 10th, 08, 1:00 AM lol thats funny i know it was the machines fault. I still love ups but man im sick of driving the rx300 plus its getting warmer outside,

I'd like to hear more about how UPS 'deposes' of damaged shipments.
A long time ago here local, UPS used to have a contract with at least two different salvage companies that I know of where the stuff was sold basically 'by-the-pound' to the salvage companies. They in turn would get so much of it they would sell off items at auction on a regular basis since they didn't have enough room for it all in their warehouses. These were not 'charity' operations either, strictly 'for-profit.'
At the time when I was able to attend one salvage company's auction, it was almost like 'digging for gold.' I would bid & get something that most other people would have no idea what it is or what it was worth, or it would be physically damaged where no one would know how to fix it. I would get it straightened out & resell it for a good deal of money.
But for the lying part, UPS will mis-lead a shipper on purpose to delay payment for a lost or damaged item (at least that was the way it was then). I got hold of a laptop computer that was damaged. Fixed it up & looked at the info on it, it belonged some doctor that had encrypted patient files on it. I called the owner to see if he wanted his files off it before I sold the laptop to someone else. Then I hear from the shipper (a computer store) telling me that UPS did not know where the laptop was & wanted me to send it to him. I let him know I'd be glad to 'sell' him the computer since I did the repair & had purchased it at a salvage sale. Next thing I know a UPS investigator is knocking at my door wanting the computer & asking me did I look at the patient files. They were encryted, of couse, so I could not see any info. But if they wanted it, they would have to 'buy' it from me since I now owned it legally. So instead of that, at a 2nd visit they just had me sign a waiver indicating I deleted all the info off the laptop. I did send the 'doctor' a copy of his encryted patient files, just wanted him to re-imburse me for the 10 floppies & mailing costs. Never heard back.
But anyway, UPS dis-continued their operations in this area for salvage, & supposedly moved the operation out to Utah. That was too far for the local salvage companies to send their drivers out to pick up the damaged loads, so the auctions ceased.
Realdealoo8 Apr 10th, 08, 1:32 AM Well I got a quick UPS story for ya... I had a Dodge transfercase I sold on ebay. They are fairly large so I decided I would have mail boxes ect. package it up for shipping. They are a local UPS authorized shipping place. So im there when the girl boxes it up and she did alot better than I would have to safely ship it. double boxed tons of tape , rapped in foam then peanuts in both boxes. So I pay for the boxing job and shipping and its off to the new owner. Well a few days go by and purchaser calls me to tell me it arrived damaged. Long story short she sends me pictures of the transfer case and the box. well the case is destroyed, like it looks like it fell out of the plane at 30 thousand feet, destroyed. But here is the best thing the box it arrived in was not damaged at all, it was not even the box that was used at the packing place. So i file a claim and they first ferused it and said it was my poor packing at fault. When I argued and explained that I did not pack it , an authorized shipper did and its not even in the packing the girl shipped it in. So when confronted with all this they did pay the claim. I just wonder how often they damage stuff repack it then blame the shipper for the problem thus refusing the claim.

WOW now that had to suck. Summit said they would over night a new harness for free but i told them its ok il wate for the wires tomorrow. Besides jess wants new tires and she cant get the untell the chevelle starts since i won heads :hurray:
Rich-L79 Apr 10th, 08, 11:56 AM I've got a solution for UPS issues: FedEx Ground.
PDFChevelle Apr 10th, 08, 12:49 PM Think USPS is any better? A had a letter delivered to my home. Wasn't my name, The street address was OK. But it was intended for Germany!
64elkynss Apr 10th, 08, 2:09 PM I like the PAL jokes guys! I'll have to use them at work! 64elkynss
kivaka Apr 10th, 08, 3:59 PM well the wires came in so thats a plus. But i only have the wires the box didnt come with it so looks like i have to use the one i have already. well i hope the rain stops now so we can push the chevelle to the pole barn. The rain kinda made the driveway there muddy.
Q-ship Apr 10th, 08, 4:42 PM PDF don't be so quick with that FedEX they are a bunch of lieing can't read dilberts too. I had a Wiring harness "delivered" to an address that doesn't exist (would have been in middle of an intersection) then "investagators" tried to contact the driver who would not return their calls. If I had been in charge the driver would be on suspension after 2 times contacting and he or she still refused to contact the "investagators". Had to get the wiring place to send out a replacement, and 3 weeks later the original finally shows up. Too top it off they tried to make it my fault, the replacement came UPS without issue, I will send packages by carrier pidgeon before I use FedEX ground.
Wooderson Apr 10th, 08, 6:49 PM You can blame management for all of these problems. This stuff happens because the company approves of it. It is too widespread. If they really cared, they wouldn't deny peoples claims.
