Finally got most of my tools in needed to do my quarter panel project but I have a question first.
The original driver side door had to be replaced and I just kinda threw a door on and didnt really align it because the car wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Now I need to get the door lined up right with the 1/4 but I have a problem. I can't get to the hinge bolts without removing the fender.
If I go ahead and remove the fender and leave it off for the duration of the quarter replacement will I run into issues with the fender/door gaps when I'm done?
Thanks

it isn't that big of a deal to pull the fender, then bolt it back up loose. Then you can shift everything around as needed.

exactly. also the fender is easier to align then the door aligning. fender has more play...

I'm going to be doing surgery to the cowl ducts also needed to patch the lower fenders and I thought it would have been easier with them off the car.
Dont buy a car that spent all of its life in/around Canada :noway:
Thanks guys!

You can get to the hinge bolts without removing the fender. Use a socket with an extension and universal for the front center bolt and a combination wrench for the other two. It's not easy but it's a lot easier than pulling the fender.

Its a pain in the a** to adjust the door if you dont take the fender loose!
It will take some time aligning both back up and It may take several attempts but in the end I bet you will be happy you took the fender loose.
You will find out the hard way if you dont take the fender loose as it will be difficult to hold and retighten and reajust and probably take you longer to get the job done correct in the end. JMO been there done that!

Not sure about your logic. You already have a good reference for door alignment in the fender. Why screw it up by loosening both the door and the fender? I had both doors off mine this summer and lining them back up wasn't hard at all. By keeping one hinge or the other tight at all times it's pretty easy to walk the door around to wherever you need it.

Logic ? (simple answer imo)
Quarter Panel Replacement...
Could lead to many door and fender adjustments.

You may want to get quarter/door/fender/hood/trunk lid gaps lined up to the best of your ability
before your start your Quarter replacement. this may save you a big pain in the a** in the end.
Others will chime in if you ask!

I'm definately trying to get the gaps lined up, for the most part they are ok except for the door which I swaped out recently.
I've tried adjusting the door gaps with the fender in place and due to some spacial issues it was just a major PITA so what I'm going to do is go ahead and remove the hood/fender, repair the firewall, adjust gaps and re-attach it all before I start cutting anything.
Thanks for the help guys.
Looks like I have some work to do!

I have left hoods on... by proping the front up with broomstick or whatever and proping up lower part of hood by windsheild with short
2x4s stacked or styrofoam or whatever you are comfortible with...
Then takinig the hood hindge loose leaveing the other hidge attached on the side you are not working on... helps with aligning hood back up and makes the job go faster and if your doing it yourself like what usually happens to me with no one else around you dont have move the hood around or worry about it, or lifting it by yourself.

Remove the hinge pins, no bolts to remove no adjustmenting afterwards.
Fit the parts NOW before you cut anything. Get the door to fit to OLD 1/4 panel, remove old 1/4 panel, fit new 1/4 panel to door.
Dont remove the door til the new quarter panel is welded in place...Eric
