Is there anyone that restores dash insrtument carriers? I see replacements for everything except 68 Chevelles. The one I have isn't all that bad, but it could be better. Any ideas?

Currently, no one has an aftermarket instrument carrier/dash assembly for a 68. Commericial restoration (clean, strip, re-chrome, paint) is very expensive...I've heard of people who have spent as much as $600 or more. You can do a self-restoration with patience and it really comes out pretty well. Use SEM Landau Black paint for the base and pick up a Krylon silver leaf paint pen for the trim. Not as shiny as original, but a good look. If you search this site you will see plenty of pictures and posts about it. My looks excellent. Good luck.

I just posted a thread about this last week and did exactly what these guys said. I did it myself and it turned out awesome. It motivated me so much that last night I was up until midnight working on my console. I turned out even better. Here are the steps they gave me and it was perfect.

1. clean in the bath tub with warm-water and dish soap. Let dry
2. Go over the entire piece with red scotch brite pad
3. Wipe down with a prep/degreaser or laquer thinner. Let dry
4. Spray two thin coats of "adhesive promotor" 2-3 minutes between coats
5. Spray two-three thin coats of your color. Make sure they are light coats. It won't cover until the third coat. 2-3 minutes between coats. Wait around 6-8 minutes
6. Spray two light coats of Krylon Matte Clear. 2-3 minutes between coats. It doesn't yellow and will not make it shinny but protects the paint.

7. Sit back and be amazed how awesome it looks. Takes a few hours and about $15 in materials!
